Intermediate Football;

In last week’s Intermediate Hurling championship our fast start was responsible for getting us over the line but last night in the Intermediate Football championship v Rockchapel the absence of a start contributed to our downfall.
Rockchapel’s lightening start saw them open up a 2.03 to 1 point lead after only 8 minutes, our lack of football preparation time was coming back to haunt us (thanks to 6 days notice of the fixture from the board).By the fifteenth minute we had reduced the gap somewhat thanks to excellent points from Conor O Lomasney and Paul O Sullivan and a goal from Eoin O Sullivan. It was a case however of one step forward and two back as we lost the services of forward Diarmuid O Sullivan to a serious looking knee injury in the lead up to the goal. A Colm O Sullivan goal and a Chris Smith 45 on the stroke of half time had the deficit down to a manageable 4 points at the break 2.08 to 2.04.
A Brian Fleming point on the resumption reduced the gap to 3 points but again it was a one step forward two back scenario as we lost the services of Domhnall O Sullivan to 2 yellow cards.( When will stop shooting ourselves in the foot?).In our efforts to close down the lead we left ourselves vulnerable to the counter attack with the extra man proving vital as a succession of points and a late goal left the final score 3.14 to 2.06.
Great credit to the players that gave their all on the night but it’s very difficult to give a team a 12 point lead in football and bring it back despite our best efforts.

Inter County;
Congratulations to both Cork Senior teams after their great victories over the weekend.
The hurlers win was unexpected but warranted and just proves that it’s definitely becoming a young man’s game, Cork’s speed and hurling skill finally proved too much for the ailing champions who as expected went down with a mighty effort.
The footballers are stumbling along but that will matter for nothing when the take on one of the favourites Dublin in the semi-final and who known’s but the double is a possibility.
Best of luck to all involved over the next two weekends.
Malign to Mizzen Cycle;
Training for the upcoming Malin to Mizen cycle is progressing very well with red and black cycling jerseys dotted all over the highways and byways of East Cork. Great credit is due to the riders who are undertaking this journey and doing so at their own cost in an effort to maximise the amount raised for the new development. You can help by sponsoring a kilometre for €10.

Fixtures;
At the time of writing our championship game v Youghal is fixed for the 11th August but this remains a doubt as it clashes with the Cork v Dublin hurling semi-final.Watch local outlets and social media for an update on this fixture.
