A BIT OF NOSTALGIA
WHAT HAPPENED THIS TIME 80 YEARS AGO
13/10/33 County Junior Hurling Championship Aghada were nominated to contest County and beat Bandon by 6-2 to 1-2.

Bandon suffered a severe defeat at the hands of Aghada in the first round of the inter-divisional junior hurling championship at Cork Athletic Grounds on Sunday. The attendance was of small dimensions, due, no doubt, to the inclement weather prevailing. In the first half the game, was a close event, but Aghada drew welt away in the second moiety, winning comfortably. The final score, how¬ever, could not be said to be a fair reflex of the play, for Bandon did not deserve to be beaten by so much. Bandon began well. A free to Bandon was spoiled by an excellent defence, and soon Aghada opened up a movement, which was non-produc¬tive. Bandon were not slow in taking possession, but. lost an inviting open¬ing when a score was possible. This was made amends for in the ensuing encounter, out of which Bandon had a point up. Play continued to be of a pretty even character in all depart¬ments. From a tussle at centre field Aghada missed a register by inches. After a lengthy interval Aghada pulled off a goal, and this Position remained to the short whistle, when Aghada led by 1-0 to Bandon’s 1 point
Aghada, putting more swing into their work, opened with a goal and a point in a brief  period. Russell had the goal and Duggan the point. Bandon retaliated with a smart goal, and this they supplemented in similar fashion following closely-fought duels. Each respective goal area was visited in turn, and sound defensive perform¬ances marked the play. The pause was broken By Barry, who netted for Aghada, who had now a comfortable lead. The same scorer having added a minor, Bandon lost a register on a narrow margin. Two seventies to Bandon were beaten off. Aghada more than maintained their lead to the full whistle, when the register stood: Aghada, 6-2; ‘Bandon, 1-2.
