Aghada GAA Club News

17 June, 2013

Next Sat evening all roads lead to Mourneabbey for a 8-00pm start to the second round of the Senior football championship were we play Newmarket for the second year in a row.
Our build up for the opening round against Clonakilty was hectic playing a number of matches but this time the management has gone down a different route with more training and just one challenge game against Nemo Rangers last weekend.
Lets all get down to Mourneabbey and get behind the lads. But if you can’t make it I will be tweeting from @aghadagaa with up to the minute updates. Tweets also appear on the Aghada web site if you have a modern browser
Just to remind you of the team the last day out who were unlucky to loose out to Clon;
Andrew O’Donoghue, Tim Hartnett, Billy Hennessy, Kieran O’Connor, John Connolly, Ronan Power (0-1), Colm Power, Eoin Healy, Pearse O’Neill, Ml Russell (capt) (0-1), Cian Fleming (1-3) (frees 0-2 pen 1-0), Tony Wall (0-1), Tom O’Neill, Josh O’Shea, Ronan Kennedy (0-1),
Subs used; John Connolly for Healy 26th m (blood), Healy for Connolly h/t, 45m Matt O’Connor for Kennedy, 47m John Connolly for Hartnett, 48m Aidan O’Connell for Wall

Before training last week the senior panel got together and presentenced Alan Ahern with one of the jerseys specially commissioned following the death of his father Billy Ahern early in the year. These jerseys have B A across the neck to mark Billy’s passing and his many achievements in his beloved Aghada jersey over thirty years. Well done to all concerned it was a lovely gesture. Alan is returning to Australia and we wish him all the best it was a tough few months.

Before all that our minor footballers are out in the County Premier 2 Championship next Thursday evening when they taken on Boherbue in Mallow 7-30. a tough ask here but Kevin O Connell, Johnny Bennett, Ger Looney and Richie Lewis should get the best out of our lads.

Medals are flying into the parish in recent weeks and this week was no exception as Emma Farmer returned with an Aisling McGing U21 ladies football medal when Cork beat Galway by 13 points to 11 in a dramatic finish in the All Ireland Final last Sunday
And lets hope there is more next Sat as Christine Moran, Sara Leahy, Aileen McGrath  are part of the Cork u14 set up in the All Ireland U14 Final Cork v Kildare at 2 pm in Templemore

The Junior hurlers shared the spoils with Killeagh on Monday night in a game best described as 'not a classic'. We played well with Timmy Hartnett on fire - probably the best player on the pitch to be honest. Still, a great group of guys giving it everything.
