Castlemartyr GAA Notes 14/06/2013
Avon/Imokilly J H L Sec 1
Castlemartyr 1-19 Newtownshandrum 1-22
Castlemartyr played their final league game before championship against Newtownshandrum in a sun soaked Castlemartyr on Sunday evening. Newtownshandrum, with Cork hurling legend Ben O’Connor in their starting line-up provided the perfect preparation for champion. Newtown kept the score board ticking over all evening with Castlemartyr always playing catch up. Newtown goaled from a free in the first half and led by 5 points at the break on a score of 1-11 to 0-09. Brian Lawton and Seanie Hennessey were best for Castlemartyr in the opening half. Newtown continued the slick play in the second half and managed to keep Castlemartyr at bay until the finish. We managed to get within one point after Brian Lawton found the net but Newtown seemed to be able to pick off points at their ease to ensure their took the points on the night. So now all the focus is on championship with the first round against Midleton.
Junior A Hurling Championship First Round
Castlemartyr begin their Junior A hurling championship campaign against Midleton this Friday evening, 21st  June in Dungourney at 7.30pm. No doubt Midleton will provide very strong opposition this early in the championship but if we can play to our potential we should be able match them and hopefully come out on top.

We would like to inform you about our annual fundraising draw for 2013 which is taking place over two months with draws to be held in June and July. The monthly subscription is €25 with substantial cash prizes to be won each month.
As you can appreciate, the provision and maintenance of our facilities, along with the running costs associated with all our teams, place a substantial financial burden on our club.
We have noticed the need to provide a meeting room/kitchen at our field. This would be used to primarily entertain teams that would have travelled long distances to play against us especially at underage level. We have been the beneficiaries of this hospitality when we travel away to these clubs, and it is vital that we would be in a position to return the favour, in a setting that we can be proud of. The room will also be a place where parents dropping their kids to training can go in to for a cup of tea and a chat, and a place where our committee and teams can meet, in a room of their own.
Unfortunately this will all cost money, but we cannot afford to stand still. Our main source of income in meeting these costs is our Club Development Draw. In the past all our members and supporters have been very supportive of this draw and we would be very grateful of your continued support.
Club members will be calling around to houses within the next couple of weeks, to collect subscriptions for our first draw to be held in late June. Alternatively you may contact one of the club officers as per details below. As always your support would be greatly appreciated.
