Intermediate League.
On Tuesday night 21st May we hosted Newcestown in round 6 of Division 1 of the  Intermediate hurling league.Playing against the wind in the first half we settled well and were first to score with points from Keith Dennehy frees and Luke Cahill from play.
Newcestown began to come into the game and scored the next 2 points and followed this with a well crafted goal. This setback spurred us into action and from the puckout we responded with a goal of our own from Diarmuid O Sullivan following an excellent Conor Cusack pass. The intensity of proceedings began to rise and even allowing for the dismissal of one of our backs for a minor offence we finished the half strongly with 2 unanswered points to lead at half time by 3 points 1.06 to 1.03.
Chris Smith was introduced to the fray before half time with a corner forward sacrificed following the dismissal,we had wind advantage for this half and started well to score the first 2 points from Keith frees. The tactics of the opposition at this stage were a bit strange as they withdrew a forward even though they had a one man advantage and this resulted in them having a lot of possession in their own half of the field. They persisted in running at our defence which was well marshalled with Killian Cronin and Brian Fleming in great form repelling everything thrown at them.
We were using our limited possession very well and seemed to be able to score with every visit to the oppositions half,a goal from a Diarmuid O Sullivan free bought us some breathing space and with our back line in total control Newcestown succeeded in taping over points but never looked like scoring the all important goal.
Another Diarmuid O Sullivan goal following a great catch and turn finished the game as a contest and when subs Dillon Cahill with a goal and Colm O Sullivan with a point got on the scoresheet we could relax as we ran out convincing winners 4.12 to 1.11.
This was a very satisfactory performance considering we played for 40 minutes with 14 men and we are heading in the right direction as our championship game looms large on the horizon.
