County JBFC Vs Ballinure

Our 2013 championship got underway in the Cobh sunshine last Saturday afternoon against, Seandún side, Ballinure in the County Junior ‘B’ football championship. Rovers could not have wished for a better start to the game with a goal from full forward Daniel O’Brien inside the first 5 minutes which was followed up by a point. Ballinure registered their first score of the game with a free on the 20 metre line. Rovers were in control of the game early on but were wasteful in front of goal, but they added another goal within the twenty minute mark again from Daniel O’Brien. Three more points were added from Paul Lane, Colman Quinlan and Brian Whelehan after Ballinure was reduced to 14 men after dissent. Rovers lead at the half time whistle with a score line of 2-5 to 0-2.

The second half was much the same as the first with Rovers in command. Alan Cott added a third goal late on and a few more points were added during the half but it could have been a much wider margin if the chances on offer had been taken. When the full time whistle was blown the score read rovers 3-10 Ballinure 0-3. It was a good win over a poor side and Rovers advance to the 3rd round of the championship which will be played later in the year.
