JHL Div 2 vs St. Ita’s

Our junior hurlers faced St. Ita’s last Saturday down at a windy Pilmore. The Rovers started the game playing with the wind and managed to open the scoring with two Kevin Ivers points in the first 5 minutes. St Ita’s responded with two scores of their own. Then Rovers took control of the game with the aid of the breeze.  Points from Derek Crowley, Ian Smiddy and Daniel O’Brien opened up a 3 point lead before Daniel O’Brien scored the game’s first goal, running at the Ita’s defence before putting the ball past the keeper.  Rovers added another two scores before the half time break, leaving them ahead on a score of 1-7 to 0-2.
Rovers playing against the stiff breeze in the 2nd half saw scores at a premium. St Ita’s notched another 4 points in the second half with Rovers adding 1-3. The goal coming from a good run by Ian Smiddy who’s shot was saved by the keeper but Aidan Beausang was on hand to tap home the rebound. This was another good win for the side that previously beat Killeagh two weeks ago and now leaves them top of the league with two games gone. The full time score was Rovers 2-10 St Ita’s 0-6.
