Aghada GAA Club News

22 April, 2013

With only a few weeks to go to the opening round of the Senior football championship ever game has taken on a new edge. Despite losing last Friday we played very well and it seems we are getting there. The lads performed heroically in Togher on Monday in absolutely horrendous conditions. A goal with the last kick sealed a win for the Barrs but another good battling performance here. No lack of commitment just a bounce of a ball will do every now and again.

The Div 4 football team has gone to the top of the league table with two wins out of three both  wins coming this week against  Glenbower on Tue evening and last Friday against Glenville.

Fri 19th April SF L Div 1 Aghada 2-8 Carbery Rangers 1-12
Aghada just came up short in this exciting Senior football game played in good conditions for a change.
The opening ten minutes was the home sides down fall leaving a clinical Carbery Rangers get a four point lead before Cian Fleming opened our account with a pointed 45.
Aghada were now on top but failed to convert this to scores as the West Cork men drove on adding two more minors before Tom O’Neill rattled the net on the 24th  minute and Aghada were back in the game. Another score from Carbery saw them go in at the short whistle 0-7 to 1-1 ahead.
On resumption Carbery stretched the lead again only for Tony Wall to pull it back. Fleming added a free and it was back to a two point game. Then came the telling score when the Rangers converted from a spot kick on the 40th minute.

A Josh O’Shea inspired comeback started first with a minor and was quickly followed by a goal. But Carbery added two minors as the long whistle approached. A Cian free followed by two mighty points from Colm Power and the afore mentioned Fleming had it back to a one point game but time ran out for a gallant Aghada
