Dungourney GAA Notes.

East Cork U21B Football Final.

Dungourney 2-8 Aghada 3-10.

Heartbreak at the final whistle,as our gallant young side put up a brave performance in a wet and windy Castlemartyr on Sunday evening last.

An absolute thriller of a game were great credit must go to both teams for producing such a great contest.

Playing against the elements in 1st half,we were just 1 point in arrears at the short whistle with Steve Mccarthy the standout performer with 2 great goals. An early point from Mike Kenneally had us on the board after 3 minutes and from there until half time it was score for score matching Aghada every step of the way.Hego kicking 3 frees and one from Jack from open play.

Half time :Dungourney 2-5 Aghada  2-6.

The second half was a much tighter affair with both defences now on top.An early point in the second half had given Aghada a 2 point lead.We then responded with a free from Shane on 33 minutes to reduce the arrears again to a single point. It was nip and tuck now and scores were at a premium.

1 point seperated the sides until the 51st minute when Aghada struck for an all important goal to put some daylight between the teams.

The lads battled gamely through out and gave everthing on the night.

Not to be down hearted only to be extremley proud of this fine bunch of players.

Match days like these are a huge learning curve for them and will surely stand to them in the future.Huge credit must also go to Brendan and Kenneth for having this team in fine fettle. It was also great to see Niall back after injury and made a huge impression when introduced in the second half.
