Sun 7th U21 B Football Final Aghada 3-10 Dungourney 2-8
If only all football games could be played like this, none stop football played at a fast pace despite the inclement weather. The opening half kept the cold at bay as both sides displayed no little skill and four goals that would grace any field.
Shane Bennett opened the scoring after only a minute but the lead was short lived as Dungourney answered with two minors before Captain Ronan Kennedy goaled on the 13th minute. Points by Kennedy and Josh O’Shea were cancelled out by the Duns before they hit two on the trot to bring it back to a one point game as we left the opening quarter. Josh who was now everywhere added another minor before the hard working Tommy Dobbyn kicked a mighty point to restore Aghada’s goal lead.
But Dungourney responded with a goal to tie matters, then in the blink of an eye Josh had added 1-1 as Aghada put daylight between the sides with eight minutes of the half remaining but the Duns were far from finished scoring a goal and a point to level matters again, as we headed for the short whistle but Ray Savage had the last word of the half from a placed ball to give the seasiders a slender lead 1-6 to 1-5 after playing with a gale force wind
If the opening half was about the forwards the second was about the backs and scores were as scarce as hens teeth by the 50th minute both sides had only added two points each then came the turning point as Dave Rice went on a solo run and lobed the keeper for the game changing goal. Aghada now four points in front were not going to let the game slip with the Aghada backs now on top they repelled raid after raid with Shane Crowley to the fore. The Duns could only manager one more point while Ronan Kennedy finished a fine display with a point and like the opening half the last word fell to Raymond Savage who landed a mighty free against the wind.

Sun 7th April J Ladies F L Aghada 4-4 Dripsey 2-1
Aghada continued their Junior campaign with a fine home performance v Dripsey, Kate Ring produced a fine save diving full stretch to her right to tip the ball around the post in the first half, Laura Savage was coolness personified at full back, dominated her position and set up attack after attack, Dripsey had no answer to the hard running and slick play of the Aghada midfield and half forward line. Jennifer Lewis scored a great goal to get things going in the first half, Cassie Tynan, Sinead O Driscoll, Roisin Phelan and Hannah Rose all played like women possessed, while Sorcha Phelan, Claire Coughlan and Sinead McCarthy were the pick of the forwards, other goal scorers included Sinead McCarthy, Claire Coughlan and Sorcha Phelan, well done to all who produced a mighty performance in terrible conditions, next match away to Ballyphehane. Aghada matched Fermoy in all areas except the score in this one, we conceded 3 goals in the opening 10 minutes and were on the back foot for the rest of the match, Aghada backs were superb after the early setback and cleared attack after attack, Sophie Bawden, Cassie Tynan and Sinead O Driscoll all shone while Christine Moran and Hannah Rose put in a mighty 60 minutes in the middle of the park, up front Claire Coughlan, Nessa Fitzpatrick and Megan Barnes were the pick of the forwards. Jodi Rose and Caoimhe Robinson stepped up to the plate after the break and both helped Aghada to keep the talented Fermoy forwards at bay. Special word for Claire Coughlan who troubled the talented Fermoy back line all through the game and never stopped trying well done Claire. Next u16 match home to Mayfield next weekend.
