Our junior footballers commenced the defence of their East Cork title in Carrigtwohill last Sunday evening. Their first round opposition was Fr. O’Neill’s in a repeat of last years final which was easily won. It was a very cold evening with the wind favouring Fr. O’Neill’s in the first half. In a low-scoring first half Glenbower led at the interval on a scoreline of 1-2 to 0-1. Stephen Murphy converted our goal after just 20 seconds with Kieran Lane and John O’Connor adding 1 free each. In the second half, we used the wind expertly by adding a further 9 points and restricting the opposition to just two points, to finish on a scoreline of 1-11 to 0-3. The large volume of supporters who travelled to the game in support of Glenbower Rovers were rewarded with an emphatic win.
Scorers for Glenbower Rover: S. Murphy 1-1, J. O’Connor 0-3F, S. Lyons 0-2, P. O’Neill 0-2, A. Keniry 0-1, C. Fogarty 0-1, K. Lane 0-1F.

There was a sizeable attendance at the junior football match in Pairc Ui Chinneide on Saturday evening last. It was a 2nd round fixture in the Jim Ryan Cup between Castlemartyr and Dungourney in which Castlemartyr emerged victorious on a score of 0-09pts to 0-08pts. They trailed their neighbours at half-time by 1 pt when the score was 0-03pts to 0-02pts. The club wish to thank all members who volunteered to help with the gate and car-parking to make the fixture such a smooth-running event.

Our senior hurlers have two fixtures in the Cork Senior League this week. They play St. Finbarrs in Killeagh on Wednesday evening at 7.15pm and they play Ballymartle on Saturday evening in Riverstick at 6pm although this throw-in time may change.

Killeagh-Ita’s Juvenile GAA Notes

Week beginning April 1st 2013

Our minor footballer’s championship 1st round tie versus Sam Maguires was due to be played in Ballincolig last Sunday. However, following a pitch inspection by the referee following continuous heavy rainfall, it was decided to cancel the match one hour before its scheduled start time of 2pm.

Fé 12 Peil  Killeagh-Ita’s v Midleton
Holy Thursday was a coldie Thursday for those of us who stood around in Midleton CBS GAA pitch watching the hardy young boys of Midleton and Killeagh-Ita’s take each other on in the Rebel Óg Football League. Both games were affected by the blustery wind, with Midleton’s two teams better at finishing off their moves with goals, and although we started very well in one game and finished well in the other, Midleton won both games to add 4 points to their league tally. We have one more round of football, against Blarney in Páirc Uí Chinnéide on Wednesday April 3rd, before we turn our attention to the small ball with games against Inniscarra and Sliabh Rua.
Team 1: Patrick Barry, Owen Cosgrove, Danny Cunningham, Richie Landers, Oisin McCarthy, Ryan McCarthy, Dara Motherway, Tommy Noonan, Robert Sinclair and Robbie Treacy.
Team 2: Olan Broderick, Peter Buckley, Cathal Fitzgibbon, Jonathan Guerin, Liam Hoogstad, David Kelly, Aaron O'Connell, Darragh O'Connor, Karl O’Toole and George Sinclair.

Fé 11 Peil  Killeagh-Ita’s v Fr. O’Neill’s
Our Under 11 boys had their first Rebel Óg Eastern League football game against near neighbours Fr. O’Neill’s in Ahavine on Saturday last at 1300 hrs. Given how little football that this team played in 2012, bainisteoir Donie Treacy and his backroom team were pleased with the effort throughout, and the learning that the team implemented, particularly in the second half as they got to grips with the game. Paul Kent, Darragh Buckley and David Collins were among those that got on the ball a lot. Hope springs eternal!
Panel: Paul Kent, Remy Bernard, David Scully, David Collins, Ben Jennings, Ben O’Connor, Robbie Treacy, Ciaran Leahy, Ryan Farquhar, Ciaran O’Rourke, Padraig Landers, Daniel Doherty, Tony McCarthy and Darragh Buckley.

Our minor hurlers commence their league campaign on Sunday next with a home fixture against Midleton. A time has yet to be confirmed for the fixture.
They play their next league match against Sarsfields on Friday April 12th in Glanmire and, again, a time has yet to be confirmed for the throw-in.
