St. Colmans news
St Colmans 1-6 Castlelyons 0-9
Last thursday evening 14 march our minors travelled to Castlelyons for Round 4 of the league. The result at the end will be welcomed by both teams, seen that this was an evenly fought contest with both sides having chances to win it in the closing stages.Against a physically stronger side Colmans found it tough going at times but a solid display at corner back by Jason Cullinane and Jordan Sherlock at centre back matched by the ever threating Kevin Moynihan at Centre foward kept them well in the game.At The short whistle Colmans led by a point with some solid free taking by Liam Murphy and a great goal by Ian Cahill who was a constant threat throughout the game. In the second half the standard of play displayed by both sides was very entertaining for those that were there with the lead changing hands with every point. The midfield and half foward line played very well during this spell and two good points by Kieran Walsh and Jack Mcgrath kept us well in the game. The turning point in the game was probably a super penalty save by Conor Motherway. This was quickly followed by an Eoin Davis point to leave the sides level going into the last five minutes. With both teams missing a chance or two the game ended level at the final whistle. Well done St Colmans we are going in right direction.
U21 Football Championship Vs Glenville.
After the week before brilliant victory over Carrigtwohill our U21 footballers returned to the same venue to take on Glenville in the quarter-final stages of the championship. With one change to the side that beat Carrigtwohill last week, Ricky Walsh coming on for Andrew Hartnett, there was a sense of optimism within the camp, but things did not start the best for the rovers with Glenville getting the first score of the game from a free, Rovers managed to break out from defense and level the game before Glenville scored their first goal of the match this was followed by a point. Credit to the lads with this set back they replied with a goal of their own, a quickly taken free to Kieran Walsh who’s shot was blocked on the line but Daniel O’Brien was on hand to tap home the rebounding ball, they quickly leveled the game shortly after from a free from Jack McGrath. After this Glenville moved up a gear and after some fine saves by Shane Casey, they finally managed to get the ball past him near the end of the half, but Glenville weren’t finished there as another quickly taken free resulted in the ball being blasted into the rovers net. The 2 quick goals were hard pills to take at the end of a half in which rovers defended well. The half time score read Glenville 3-4 Rovers 1-2.
The second half lacked the scoring as the first half with rovers missing a number of frees to try reducing the deficit and the half only produced 4 scores in total, 3 for Glenville and a solitary 1 for the rovers. It was a disappointing result to take as the lads put in a mighty effort in the first round win but couldn’t match it against a good Glenville side. The final score read rovers 1-3 glenville 3-7, the third year in a row we have lost to this opposition in the U21 championship.

The All Rovers talent show
Our first fundraiser of the year took place last Friday night, 8th March, in The Blackbird, Ballycotton. It was a thoroughly enjoyable night with more than 15 acts on the night. It was hard to decide a winner with the high standard in the competition but the winner was Deidre Casey, with an amazing rendition of Danny Boy closely followed by Micheal Furlong and Shane Casey in second and Daniel O’Brien in third. The club would like to thank all the acts as well as Mossy Tattan and the Blackbird staff for hosting the event and not forgetting the field kitchen for the food.
