Castlemartyr 2-14 Killeagh 1-12

Castlemartyr played their second league game of the season at home to Killeagh on a cold Saturday afterternoon. Having trailed for most of the match, Castlemartryr showed good character to finish strongly in the last 15 minutes and secure the valuable 2 points. Played into a strong wind, Castlemartyr were slow to settle and Killeagh had 1-04 on the board before Castlemartyr registered their first point from Brian Lawton. Killeagh responded with another point before Barry Lawton pointed a free and had another from play after a great pass from Evan O’Keeffe. Another Killeagh point kept them 7 points up, but Castlemartyr finished the half strongly with a goal from Eddie Clifford after he pulled on a breaking ball close to goal and 3 points from Barry Lawton(2) and Jamie Stack. This left the half time score at Castlemartyr 1-6 to Killeagh 1-9.

Killeagh had the better start to the second half outscoring Castlemartyr by 3 points to one in the opening 10 minutes with Eddie Clifford pointing for Castlemartyr. From this point on however, Castlemartyr found their form and managed to hold Killeagh scoreless for the remainder of the match. Barry Lawton pointed after being picked out by his brother Brian and substitute Colm Beausang was unlucky to see his snap shot go over the bar when it could just as easy ended up in the back of the net. Barry Lawton continued to slot over frees and Jamie Stack and Brian Lawton also had points. A long delivery from Barry Lawton ended up in the net to finally kill off the Killeagh challenge.
