Under 21 ‘B’ Football Championship Semi-Final (AET)

Castlegoold 0-12 (12)
Dungourney 1-15 (18)
At Ballynoe
Sat 16th March 2013

An absolute thriller was played out last Saturday in Ballynoe as the boys from Dungourney managed to emerge victorious after a titanic battle. We seemed to have been going well, especially with Barry Lawton and Cathal Cashman in defensive mode and attackers Jamie Stack and John McCarthy throwing their weight behind the cause. However, Dungourney with James McCarthy and Niall Motherway in their ranks were more than able to match our lads for commitment and skill.

At halftime with us ahead by a point (0-4 to 0-3) it seemed we had the platform to go on and push ahead. The Dungourney boys refused to wilt and a terrific second half ensured, chances for goals were there for both sides but were not taken. Points were traded, and with some defence from Andrew O’Dononvan and Chris Moran, ensured that the minimum was between the sides. At 0-10 each the full-time whistle blew and we were heading for extra time. We still couldn’t see a team winning as they were deadlocked at 0-12 each however two minutes into the second period the breakthrough came for Dungourney as they managed to raise the green flag which made our lads drop their heads. With the momentum firmly behind them they pushed on to win by six.

While it was a disappointing result for our lads, they can be proud of their performances in this years championship. We wish Dungourney the best in the final against Aghada.

Lisgoold 0-12 (12)
Midleton 4-20 (32)
At Midleton
Sat 16th March 2013

As the scoreline suggests a comprehensive win for the magpies as our boys simply couldn’t get going in the first round of the league. In a disappointing game from start to finish for the blues, Midleton dominated throughout the hour and to be fair played a very good brand of hurling. It may be the fact there is football championship on in the next two weeks that may be a distraction but it is hard to pin-point why such a poor performance was displayed. However knowing the talented hurlers available to us. One can safely assume that there will be a mass improvement on the next day out.
