Under 21 ‘B’ Football Championship Quarter-Final

Castlegoold 2-15 (21)
Bride Rovers 0-2 (2)
At Castlelyons
Sat 9th March 2013

A comprehensive win for our Under 21 squad (who are combined with Castlemartyr) against bride rovers. We tend to have dominated from the first whistle to last, as it turned out to be a comfortable win for our under 21’s. This was helped by our superb defence and lethal attack, in which we were able to dispatch the Rathcormac side with little fuss. James Lawton, Cathal Cashman and Andrew O’Donovan played well in defence which kept the rovers down to two points. Our midfield paring of John McCarthy & Barry Lawton were excellent in midfield and combined very well, which gave the forwards the platform to do the damage. The very impressive Jamie Stack’s Free-taking was lethal as he slotted over five frees, Cian Scannell excelled in the game by hitting in 1-1 and Colm Beasuang put in a solid and very productive hour by scoring a point and being involved in 1-4 of the team’s total. Our subs bench also did well, with Adam McAuliffe and Killian Kingston adding to the total (which no doubt will give our selectors a minor headache in picking out the next fifteen for the next day).

Team: Cian Hines, Bill Whelan, Cathal Cashman, Andrew O’Donovan, Chris Moran, James Lawton, Brendan O’Flynn, Barry Lawton (Capt.), John McCarthy, Liam Martin, John Cashman, Cian Scannell, Colm Beausang, Jamie Stack, Jamie Woods.

Scorers: Jamie Stack 0-6 (0-5 frees), Cian Scannell 1-1, Killian Kingston 1-0, Liam Martin, John Cashman (0-2 each), Chris Moran, Colm Beasuang. Jamie Woods, Adam McAuliffe (0-1 each).

Lisgoold/Leamlara Ladies Football & Lisgoold GAA Dinner Dance 2013

In a superb setting and fantastically organised event, a great night was had by a nice attendance at the dinner dance last Saturday. Boosted by the Under 21’s victory earlier on in the day, everyone was in flying form for this year’s event. In which, we were treated to an excellent meal by the hosts (Fota Island Hotel), Following this we had three speeches by the respective Chairpersons in the club Con McCarthy (Ladies Football), Norma Woods (Juvenile) & Eoin O’Riordan (Junior) all were well spoken. It also must be noted that Norma had a cupla focal as gaeilge, (which nicely coincided with Seachtain na Gaeilge) which was a delight to hear. Newly elected East Cork Chairman Dick Fitzgerald, added his worth afterwards and then the medals were presented to victorious teams on the night (Junior Ladies and the Junior C Football Team). Separate awards were given for people who had represented the parish in the Red & White of Cork, Ella Ryan (Cork Senior ‘B’ Team), John Cronin (Cork Under 21’s), and John Cashman (Cork Minors). Johanna Lane was presented with Player of the year. Also a special mention was given to the victorious Scór team who captured the Overall club title for the first time and also to the ‘Long Kick’ winners of 2012, (Frances Connery, Aileen O’Keeffe & Maria Connery). Then afterwards, it went into full swing with ‘Happy Dayz’ who with a young (and some old!) vibrant crowd partied on to the small wee hours. There was also the weekly lotto draw done as well as one for people who signed up for the standing order, plus a special raffle was held for the attendees of the dinner dance. Please check the lotto draw section for results. A huge congratulations, must go to the organising committee who prepared and organised a fantastic event. One can hope that there will be silverware won so to have one again next year.
