First County Title of the year for Rovers.

At the Eire Og GAA Club Pavilion in Ovens on Saturday night last our Novelty Act. The Course' was one of four acts in the County Senior Scor Final. The other competing clubs were Tracton, Kilmurry and St. Johns. Though Jonathon Brackett was very ill hours before the curtain went up he still went on stage. Daniel Lane was an absentee from the County Final as he was with the Cork Footballers  in Newry for National Football League duty the following day. Our Act went well but it was nearly midnight before the results were announced and we were declared County Champions for 2013. We now go forward to the Munster Semi Final in Mallow ion Saturday March 23rd at 7pm. Here the champions of Cork, Clare, Waterford and Kerry will vie for two places in the Munster Final. Congratulations also to the Watergrasshill Ballad Group who were crowned County Champions.

On Friday night last the February Draw in the Cork GAA Members Draw was held. The Bride Rovers GAA Club was drawn out as winner of a prize of €10,000. This is a great boost to the Club and will be of great benefit for the ongoing Club Developments.

Bride Rovers Junior footballers who are regraded B for 2013 opened their Division 3 League campaign when they were visitors to Dungourney on Tuesday 26th February.  After a very close opening half Dungourney lead at the interval by 0- 6 to 0-5. The Rover’s scores came from Brendan Walsh 0-2, and 0-1 each from Daniel Dooley, Sean O’Brien and Barry Johnson.  Barry Johnson tied up the scores early in the second half with a well taken point. Dungourney scored the only goal in the game mid ways through the half and added three further points to run out winners on a score of 1-9 to 0-6.  This was a good performance by the Rovers on their first outing and we were  down to play St. Catherine’s on Tuesday 5th March away.

Our next game in this competition was to be against Brian Dillons. As we are due to play Dillons in the championship the league points will go on this game. Our next fixture is now on the Weekend of March 23/24th against Ballyphehane, away.

We started our 2013 campaign with a home challenge game against Ballygiblin with a panel of 18 players some 2 weeks ago. We started slowly and found ourselves 2 points down in as many minutes, we got into the game through Stephen Boyce and Gavin O'Flynn and by half-time we led by 5 points to 4 points. We started brightly in the 2nd half and two well taken points by James Murphy stretched our lead before we conceded a goal to allow Ballygiblin back into the game. Enda Collins came off the bench and with his first touch had the ball in the net for an excellent goal. From there to the end we were under severe pressure and went behind by 2 points and in the last minute Enda was unlucky to see his kicked effort being saved which left Ballygiblin victors by 2--8 to 1--9.

Panel and Scorers:   Frank Hogan, Tadgh O 'Sullivan, Brian Collins, Barry Collins, Fergus Collins, Kieran Collins, Jim O'Connor, James Murphy(0-2), Stephen Boyce(0-1), William Finnegan, Brendan O'Driscoll, Terry Broderick(0-2),Gavin O'Flynn(0-3), Sean O'Brien, Ryan O'Connor(0-1),Podge Noonan, Enda Collins(1-0),Liam O'Leary, Jamie Buckley.

For our second game of the season  we travelled to Glanworth to take on Harbour Rovers on Sunday last. It was good for the Club to have 22 players in attendance despite 8 players being unavailable due to injuries and work and also due to the fact the a panel of 20 players + had travelled to Dungarvan with the Senior Team.

Once again we started slowly against very good opposition and found ourselves on the back foot despite playing with the wind. We finally found our range and registered 4 points before half-time. On the day we utilised the full panel again and we were comprehensively beaten but it is good to get an opportunity in early match practise to provide hurling games for all players.

Panel & Scorers:  Frank Hogan, Tadgh O'Sullivan, Brian Collins, Podge Noonan, Barry Collins, James Murphy, Jim O'Connor, Gerard Healy, Damien Buckley(0-1), William Finnegan(0-1), Terry Broderick(0-3), Liam O'Leary, Colm Power, Stephen Hackett(0-1), Kieran Wolfe, Pat Walsh, Richie Cahill, Enda Collins, Darren Moore, Jamie Buckley.  Our 2013 Avondhu/ Imokilly JHL begins on this coming weekend Sunday March 10th with a home game v Castlemartyr at  3pm.
