Aghada GAA Club News

26 February, 2013

It was a busy weekend with the three adult football teams out.
On Fri evening our third string were up against Russell Rvs under lights in Rostellan but found the going hard.
On Sun our seniors despite losing to county champions Castlehaven put up a great show and were unlucky. That evening it was the turn of the second string that again put up a great show only to lose to the North Cork side Ballyclough

Sun 24th Feb Imokilly/Avondhu J F L Div 1 Aghada 2-8 Ballyclough 1-19
On a bitter cold but lovely evening Ballyclough got the better of Aghada’s second string in Rostellan.
The opening half was very competitive and evenly contested. The North Cork boys opened the scoring with two minors in as many minutes. Aghada started to motor as Declan Morressy opened the home account on the third minute. John O’Brien followed a minute later when he rattled the net to lead for the first time. For the next six it was all Aghada buy we failed to capitalise. Ballyclough hit back with three unanswered points. Ger Melvin levelled matters from a placed ball then Martin Day followed up with a goal on the 22nd m. Ballyclough replied with four on the trot to lead at the short whistle by 0-9 to 2-2.

On resumption the North Cork side had the ball in the net from the thrown in  and were never led again despite some great rallies by Aghada John Paul, Melvin and Ray Savage kicked unanswered points to nullify that goal, but that was as good as it got as Ballyclough kicked seven points to Aghada’s two for the remainder of the half.

Team Chris Cashman, Richie Condon, Kane Looney, Alan Walsh, Jake O’Donoghue, Ken O’Gorman (capt), Alan Creedon, Ray Savage, Declan Morrissey (0-1), Martin Day (1-0), Ger Melvin (0-3), Ml Burchill, Alan Hennessy, J P O’Connor (0-2), John O’Brien (1-0) subs used James Daly for O’Donoghue h/t,  Jack Hayes for Morressy h/t, Ml McCarthy for Burchill 35m, Ml Burchill for Condon  50m
