Intermediate Football.
The Intermediate football team continued on their winning ways with their second league win of the week with a 4 point win over Fermoy. The game played in Cloyne on Sunday last was played in ideal conditions albeit with a slight wind blowing towards the town goal.Fermoy with the elements to their backs were first to score with a point from play and like last week our first score was a goal finished to the net by Colm O Sullivan after the keeper had saved Diarmuid O Sullivans initial effort.Fermoy continued to force the play moving the ball very quickly in attack and were it not for the excellent defending of Domhnall O Sullivan and Brian Fleming in particular we could have found ourselves in dire trouble.Fermoy continued to pick of the scores but our cause was helped by another goal this time a Sully thunderbolt after he won good aerial possession on the edge of the square.Fermoy with a point closed out the first half scoring to leave the scores all square at the break 2 goals to 6 points.
The second half saw us first to score with 2 points to play to put us in the lead for the first time and for the next 15 minutes points were traded but we were dealt a blow with the concession of a goal after we had cheaply turned over possession to leave us a gaol behind entering the final 10 mins.Positional switches that brought Paudie O Sullivan a half time sub out around the middle of the field and pushed our greater goal threat Diarmuid O Sullivan into attack had the desired effect.Paudie in particular began to get on a lot of possession and following a great move between himself and Diarmuid culminated in Colm findind the net after Diarmuids initial shot had cannoned of the crossbar.Playing now with a greater confidence and drive we added another pointed from a free and finished the scoring on a high when a shot from Keith Dennehy deceived the Fermoy keeper for an excellent goal(he'll tell you he meant it).Overall a very satisfactory result against one of the better teams in the league with great individual performances from Domhnall and Paul O Sullivan Brian Fleming and Diarmuid O Sullivan in particular. Our next game is away to Kildorrery so keep an eye out locally for details of theis game.
