Castlelyons 1-12  Erins Own 1-11

The club minor football team played the first match of the season when they took on Erins Own on Sunday last in Castlelyons. Pitch conditions were excellent with a strong wind blowing directly up the pitch. Eirins Own scored the first 2 points of the match and held the lead until Ronan Bransfield  and Jack Barry  scored 1 pt each to level after 20 mins. Both teams exchanged points before half time with Anthony Spillane and Ronan Bransfield scoring points to leave the score 6 pt to 5 pt in favor of Erins Own at half time.Against a strong wind the back lines and midfield worked very hard to keep ball moving forward with some excellent performances on their first day out. Second half started brightly with Colm O Neill scoring 2 quick points followed by Shane Moroney and Ronan Bransfield . Erins Own replied with 1-3 to leave them ahead by 2 pt with 5 mins remaining.Colm O Neill, following great work from Shane Fenton and Coran Lawlor, scored a great fisted goal to retake the lead and even though Erins Own scored 2 more points Castlelyons finished strongly with 2 points of their own to win the match by 1 point. Confusion reigned at the end as the referee had  Erins Own winning  by a point even though both Castlelyons and Erins Own mentors had Castlelyons winnning by 1 point. Overall this was a very good performance all across the team which is a good indicator for the year ahead.
