At Mallow
Sun 17th Feb 2013

A frustrating afternoon for our lads as they were turfed out in a very competitive match, by a single point in a blustery mallow pitch. We won the toss and elected to go with the breeze, it seemed to be a tactic that worked very well, as after a tough half hour we only were two points adrift at the short whistle. Denis O’Brien who scored  a wonderful point, Conor Walsh, Moss O’Connell & Eoin O’Riordan were solid throughout. It seemed that at the second half after a fantastic start with John Cashman kicking three well-taken frees that we would kick on, however Buttevant made a few switches and took the game to Lisgoold. The half thus was a ding-dong battle as both sides gave it everything to win in freezing conditions. Barry Ahern was playing well as was Andrew O’Donovan and John Cashman, a turning point came in the game as we had a shout for penalty but it was refused by the referee, we were creating chances but had an inability to take them. Buttevant, however were quick at the counter and turned over a lot more ball and punished every mistake we made with scores. Denis O’Brien (who was having a blinder) scored another super score which allowed us to be level at 0-5 apiece with twelve minutes left. Buttevant shoved on and went two in front but Barry Ahern scored a great point to ensure the bear minimum between the sides. We had chances near the end to draw level but they weren’t taken, and ended up on the wrong side in a one point defeat. Co-Manager Seamus McSweeney had this to say “ It is a disappointing result but to be fair to the lads the played well and the windy conditions didn’t help us to play the football we liked. However we have a few positives to come out of this, some of youngsters played very well, and when we have a few more players back we a bit stronger for the next day out.” So, a disappointing day in the office, but some positives have come out of it. We hope to have a better result come next week.
