Juvenile Notes

Fe 16
Saturday 9th of February saw Midleton’s Fe 16 footballers take to the Tech field for their first Premier 2 league outing of the year. The opposition was St Vincents with Midleton coming away with a comfortable win on a scoreline of 7-06 to 2-05. The pitch was in fine condition if a bit dead and Midleton used the good conditions to work their way to an early lead which set the tone for the game. At half time Midleton were well in front as the score read Midleton 5-03 –St Vincents  1-02. Midleton’s lads never looked like losing their lead in the second half and eventually took the victory that they deserved.

Alcohol and Substance abuse programme
A series of events organised by Pearse McCarthy (ASAP Officer) is progressing nicely and is proving to be a useful information for our older juvenile players.

Week 4: Life Skills & Health Promotion Programme.
Last Wednesday, February 06, was the last evening of our course. Once again it was well attended by both the ladies and the lads.
On this occasion we welcomed John & Dee Dennigan both of Foroige.
We had the use of both committee rooms where mixed groups were split in two, Dee with one group and John with the other then swapping over. Dee spoke on the subjects of drugs & alcohol. Part of this was about the identification of what is considered to be a drug and what constitutes as being a drug.
John's theme for the evening was on team-building which involved games which involved everyone in groups bringing leaders to the fore. John also spoke to the attendees on leadership and how everyone should be respected equally, be it your teammates, opponents & officials etc.
The evening once again was very interactive which only worked due to enthusiastic involvement of everyone. We thank John & Dee for their excellent participation and expertise. Thanks to Gordon Kinsley also who arrived where certificates were awarded to all our young attendees. Also special thanks to the parents who attended for the awarding of certificates.
This four week course proved to be very interactive with a lot learned over this time.
The aim of this ASAP programme was to educate our players on drugs & alcohol along with life skills. There was never any lecturing involved, just an education on how to make informed choices.
Finally, thanks to everyone overall who attended & participated over the four weeks especially the Fe15/16 Hurlers & Footballers & the Fe16 Ladies Footballers.
Best wishes to all these teams for the coming year.

Gum Shields
From the 1st of January 2013 it is now compulsory for juvenile players to wear gum shields (mouth Guards). The rule relates to both football training and matches. This ruling has come from GAA Headquarters and anybody not wearing a gum shield and who subsequently gets injured during a match or training session will not be covered by GAA insurance.
GAA recommended gum Shields can be purchased from our juvenile club sponsor Murphy’s Pharmacy in Midleton.
Please ensure that your child has a gum shield for every training session and game.

Training
Most teams are back training now following the Christmas break. Training times can be found on the club website www.midletongaa.com   . On the juvenile team page for your child’s team training times have been posted. We would ask parents to encourage their children to practice during the week even if the weather is bad, parents can practice catching the ball indoors. For players from junior infants to Fe 9 please remember to bring your €2 to training sessions. This money is vital to keep the juvenile section of the club funded.

Midleton Juvenile Golf Classic
The dates for the 2013 juvenile Golf Classic have been confirmed as Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th of July. We hope this years event can live up to the quality of the previous years and that the community support it as well as in the past. Please spread the news to those who you think might sponsor a team or a prize.
