The Club executive would like to express their deepest sympathies to the following family’s on their recent bereavements’;
The O’Donnell family on the death of Mary. Mother of Denis and grandmother of James.
The Flanagan family on the death of Evelyn, wife of Vincent.
The Fox family on the death of Garda Adrian Donohue, nephew of Ann and cousin of Pat.

Did you know that fifty years ago on February 2nd 1963 the last regular passenger train ran through Midleton Station? When the train left Cork at 6.15pm there were 100 passengers on board. 30 got off at Youghal and about a dozen got off at Cork on the return. No passenger had purchased a return ticket for the sentimental last round trip!

BINGO for all every Friday night in the GAA Pavilion from 8pm, everyone welcome.

Juvenile Notes

Alcohol and Substance abuse programme
A series of events organised by Pearse McCarthy (ASAP Officer) is progressing nicely and is proving to be a useful information for our older juvenile players.
Week 2: LIFE SKILLS & HEALTH PROMOTION PROGRAMME
The club ran the second event of our ASAP Course for the Fe 15/16 boys & the Fe 16 girls on Thursday last 24th.
Gordon Kinsley once again ran the course with groups of both the girls & boys debating - what is acceptable behaviour in relation to issues & scenarios involving Drugs & Alcohol. Factual information was provided and an interesting debate followed with every individual challenging themselves what acceptable behaviour is.
Thanks again to Gordon whose knowledge and support with this course has been invaluable.
For part two of the evening we welcomed our guest speaker: Atlantic Ocean Rower, Sean McGowan. Sean told us the fascinating story about his successful solo attempt to row across the Atlantic Ocean. Obviously this challenge was a huge one but Sean was able to relate his epic story back to life in general and playing sport. He explained to the players that they will all face challenges going into adulthood and that you should always challenge yourself in life & sport.
His story was one of bravery, sadness, self belief, determination which was also dotted with humour (at Sean's expense)
Sean will be releasing a book on his story in May which I'm sure will be a great read. It's not every day you meet a person like Sean with the drive & belief which he enthused everyone with, so we thank Sean for the time & interest he showed in us all.
(Additional info on book to follow soon)
Once again thanks our guests & selectors who attended but more importantly thanks to our young stars.
Hope to see everyone again on Wednesday 30th January @7pm in the Club.

Gum Shields
From the 1st of January 2013 it is now compulsory for juvenile players to wear gum shields (mouth Guards). The rule relates to both football training and matches. This ruling has come from GAA Headquarters and anybody not wearing a gum shield and who subsequently gets injured during a match or training session will not be covered by GAA insurance.
GAA recommended gum Shields can be purchased from our juvenile club sponsor Murphy’s Pharmacy in Midleton.

Training
Most teams are back training now following the Christmas break. Training times can be found on the club website  www.midletongaa.com   . On the juvenile team page for your child’s team training times have been posted. We would ask parents to encourage their children to practice during the week even if the weather is bad, parents can practice catching the ball indoors. For players from junior infants to Fe 9 please remember to bring your €2 to training sessions. This money is vital to keep the juvenile section of the club funded.

Midleton Juvenile Golf Classic
The dates for the 2013 juvenile Golf Classic have been confirmed as Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th of July. We hope this years event can live up to the quality of the previous years and that the community support it as well as in the past. Please spread the news to those who you think might sponsor a team or a prize.
