Aghada opened their football season with a win, grinded out on a bitter cold and damp evening in Rostellan

Aghada were full value for their win despite the visitors holding them to a single point for 26 minutes

The difference between the teams was the home side’s ability to put the leather into the net. The three goals came from the boots of Cian Fleming, Trevor O’Keeffe, and Kieran O’Connor. Where as the Ballincollig lads had one shot at goal but the Cul Barra Jack Hayes and the post were able for it.

By the tenth minute Aghada were 2-2 to a single point to the good then as we entered the second quarter Trigger added a minor from a placed ball as the home side looked well on top, but all of a sudden the City boys opened up and landed five points to one for Aghada coming off the boot of John Connelly to leave the half time score 2-4 to 0-6 fin favour of the home side.

On resumption Ballincollig continued to bring the game to Aghada scoring four minors on the trot to level things. Then on the 40th minute Kieran O’Connor restored Aghada’s lead with a great goal.

four points were exchanged for the remained of the game, but the city boys could not break down the home sides defence.
