On the playing side ggames as you would expect at this time of the year are pretty thin on the ground but the one team who are in action of late are the U21 Footballers who are taking part in the St Nicks tournament. Glenville have played two games to date against Glanmire loosing by 3-6 to 3-3 and last Monday night after leading 1-6 to 0-1 at one stage lost out to two late St Nicks goals 3-5 to 2-7. We have one more game this Friday night in Fouhy Park v Kinsale. Throw in is at 8pm.

XMAS CHARITY FOOTBALL GAME

On Dec 23rd Glenville will take on a team of Santas in Fouhy park. Apparently the Santa selection have left no stone unturned in their meticulas preparation for this game and Glenville will have to be in top form to see them off..!! Throw is is at 12.30 in Fouhy Park and all proceeds from this game will go to the Samaratians. We encourage everyone and anyone to the event. The football may not be the prettiest but its sure to provide plenty of entertainment..

Glenville U21 Football Tournament

Glenville GAA Club again will commence its U21 Football tournament for the 4th successive year. This cup in memory of the late Dick Cahill who was a great figure in Glenville GAA circles for many years and this cup is held in his memory. This competition initiated in 2010 started from humble beginnings with 8 teams taking part had grown in popularity over the last three years. Initially St Vincents were the inaugural winners of the competition defeating Clyda Rovers by a goal in the Final and since then the number of teams looking to participate has seen it jump to 24 teams entered last year. Youghal won after defeating Kinsale after a great final in 2011 while last year West Cork side Clanna na Gael playing an impressive brand of attacking football defeated a gallant St Vincents side in the Final in Glenville. As with previous years teams from all over the County are taking part from every division in Cork with the exception of Beara with last years West Cork delegation consisting of teams from Dohenys, O Donovan Rossa, Newcestown and Clanna na Gael. On the other side of the county you have teams from as far as Youghal and to the North you have Millstreet, Mitchelstown so thre geographical spread is Countywide.

This year the competition will commence on the weekend of January 12th with the first rounds of games and following on with subsequent weeks after that. The winners of this round will go into the knockout cup competition while the loser of round one will go to the plate competition which means that every team will have at least two games. Games are on a home and away basis up until Final stage so to ensure that each team has at least one home fixture.

Any club who wishes to participate or wants any further information on the competition can contact pro.glenville.cork@gaa.ie. Draw will take place on December 30th.
