Sat 1st Dec J B F C Final Aghada 0-4 St Catherines 1-6

Despite a brave showing by Aghada’s third string St Catherines lifted the Michael Boig Coleman Cup for the fourth time in their history.

This was a lively robust game of football played on a firm sod in good conditions at Killeagh.

The Saints opened the scoring with a minor on the sixth minute, but it was nip and tuck as with both defences on top, Cian Looney and Ml Gilroy at their best for the seasiders. Aghada now playing Paul Kilbane as an extra midfielder along with Aidan Kelleher started to control things. Points followed from a placed ball by Eoin O’Neill on the 13th minute, an impressive Vincent Morressy put Aghada in front two minutes later.

This was Aghada’s best spell and should have had two more minors on the board but for poor shooting.

Catherines levelled on the twenty minute and then out of the blue came the winning score a high ball around the Aghada goal found its way to the net and Aghada had a mountain to climb.

On the stroke of half time the Saints stretched their lead to 1-3 to 0-2 On resumption Aghada threw everything at the game but failed to make in roads into the Saints lead. Our only return was two points from placed balls by Eoin O’Neill and Vincent Morressy.

A very gutsy performance by Aghada especially by the older brigade who led the way

Last Tue Evening a very large crowd gathered for the AGM our longstanding Secretary Barry Day stood down after a long number of years. Barry and indeed his whole family always put Aghada gaa affairs first. Barry thanks for everything. Kevin Foley has stood into the breach and no drought will be an outstanding replacement.

Robin Triggs also stood down after his successful stint as chairman. Pat O’Connell and Ml O’Brien were both nominated to fill the Chair and it was this contest that drew the crowd.

Pat comprehensively won the vote in the first contest for the chair since 1992
