U15 Premier 2  football league final

Glenville 6.13

Thomas russells 3.11

Glenville U15 footballers ended the year in style by defeating thomas russells in the U15 premier 2 final. The game was played in mallow and the sizeable crowd were treated to a very good game of football. Glenville started the brighter and a point straight from the throw in from PJ Dennehy set us on our way.Glenville kept the momentum going early on and further points from Kyle Cronin,Josh Cooke(2) and Dilan O Donovan put us in control, before Josh finished off a great move to finish the ball to the roof of the net.We now led 1.05 without reply with 15 minutes gone.Thomas russells came stroming back into the game and reeled of five unanswered points to show they were a team to be reckoned with.We were pinned back in our own half  for this period of the game.Eoin hammond was very assured between the posts and dealt with everything that came his way.Our backs were finally getting to grips with the Thomas Russells danger men,Aaron Collins,David O Flynn,Thomas Dinan,Kenneth Spriggs and Pearse Maloney were starting to get a foothold on the game, and when our dynamic corner back Thomas Dinan kicked a beauty from 30 yards out just before the break,it left the half time score 1.06 to 5pts in our favour and an intriging second half was in store. The second half wasnt long on when Thomas Russels got in for a goal to leave just a point between the sides. It was from here our lads started to play with the style and free flowing football we associate with them.Adam Murphy was to be a real thorn in the Thomas Russells side for the entire second half, and within three minutes he had netted twice.PJ was causing alot of problems for the oppositions defense. His direct running was begining to bear fruit, and with Kyle Cronin orchestrating from the forthy we began to flow.Dylan Mccarthy,Josh Cooke and Adam Cronin were also working very hard in the forward division and their selfless running was hard to handle. Our midfield duo of Dilan O Donovan and Denis Hegerthy were very competitive and their tireless work was of huge benefit to the team.Michael Goggin was a colosis at centre back and his reading of the game is well beyond his years.Kyle(2),Pj,Dilan,Adam and Denis all kicked points to stretch our lead, but Thomas russells were always a threat and kicked some good points and when they goaled with ten minutes to go the game was always in the melting pot.Late goals from Dilan and Adam put the game to bed and when Pj kicked the final point the final whistle sounded .Glenville had won their first premier trophy since the new rebel og was formed in 2011.We introduced four subs and Ciaran Curtin,Kieran O Regan,Cathal Maloney and Jason Power all contributed to the victory as did young lads Daniel Dennehy and Aaron Spriggs.A fine all round display from the panel. Our captain Denis Hegerthy accepted the cup on behalf of this talented group of players.
