East Cork Junior C Football Final

Glenville 1-07

Lisgoold 2-05

Glenville Junior C Footballers made the trip Ballynoe on Sunday evening last to contest the junior football final. Before the start of play we were without Cathal Whelan, Brian Cosgrove and Eoin Lynch. On a very blustery day it was glenville with the aid of a strong wind started very brightly. Points from Aidan Foley, Jimmy O Leary and John O Connell put us 0-03 to 0-00 up after the opening quarter.Glenville lost the influential Eamonn Counihan with a Hamstring injury which was a big blow to the team. Glenville were dominating all over the field and a TJ Forde goal saw us 1-03 to 0-03 coming to the close of the half. Aidan Foley kicked a free but on the stroke of half tme against the run of play Lisgoold stroke a goal to leave the half time score 1-04 to 1-00. Again Glenville started brightly in the second half and kicked two furthr points through Jimmy o Leary and Aidan Foley to pull 6 points clear. However Lisgoold playing with the strong wind started to make end roads and cut the deficit to 2 after kicking 4 unanswered points. With 5 mins to go, lisgoold goaled to take the lead for the very first time in the game. However with time nearly up, John O Connel kicked a great point to draw the sides level. A replay seem to be on the cards but in the second minute of injury time lisgoold were rewarded a free and scored to win by a point. Heartbreak for the glenville lads who put in a trojan effort. Glenville had great performances on the day from Brian Leary, Shane Riordan, Colm Murphy, John Connell, Kevin O Neill and Jimmy O Leary. This was a very dissapointing end to the year for all involved but great credit must be given to players and management of Francis, Liam, Enda, Dave, Ger and Richie for the commitment shown throughout the year. However it was a great achievement for our third team to get so far with 9 U21's finishing the game and the future of the club looks to be very positive.

On the stroke of half time Nemo hit back with a goal to leave the half time score Glenville 3-07 Nemo 2-03. The second half was a different game with Nemo upping the tempo considerably.
