Glenville GAA Club News

19 October, 2012

On Sunday last the U12 C Footballers played Lisgoold in the Final. This team did fantastically well to reach the final as we fielded all U11s in this competition as the twelve year olds played in the A competition. Lisgoold has a distinct advantage size wise in this game but they were made fight tooth and nail for success in this one as Glenville played themselves to a standstill and with a bit of luck could have pulled off a great win but in fairness to Lisgoold they held firm and deservedly won out by a four point margin in the end. Glenville 3-5 Lisgoold 4-6.

On Saturday the U15 Footballers began championship action with a convincing win over Inniscarra in the Premier 2 FC. Glenville hit the ground running and built up an early lead with well taken scores. All the forwards were moving well and eventhough Inniscarra caused us trouble at times, Glenvilles superior team work was pretty evident and played the more cohesive football throughout. The final score of Glenville 4-15 to Inniscarra 1-6 was a little harsh on Inniscarra as their commitment and honesty was evident but they found this Glenville side in confident mood on this occasion. Glenville meet Aghada in the next round.

The U16 Footballers reached the Final of the AFL with a facile win over Passage in Glenville. Glenville had this game put to bed in the opening stages as we lead 3-3 to no score after 5 minutes. Passage had no answer to our open fast attacking football and we continued to probe at every oppertunity. Leading 7-7 to 0-2 at the break Passage made some sort of improvements in the second half and scores were not as regular as in the first. Still in all the gap was too much to close and eventually ended 7-14 to 1-5 in our favour. We now face Ballinora in the final who defeated championship winners Fr o Neills in the other semi final. Well done all.

As all Junior Football League in Div 2 and Div 3 has finished we played Aghada in a challange game on Tuesday night in preparation for the Junior CFC. This was a lively game of football in testing conditions with Aghada winning in the end by a goal 3-10 to 2-10. This Sunday the Junior CFC v Lisgoold takes place in Glenville at 1pm.
