St. Catherine's News
29 April, 2009
St. Catherine’s GAA.
On this forthcoming Thursday night, St. Catherine’s play Carrigaline in the first round of this year’s Premier Intermediate Hurling championship. It will be a much changed lineout from previous championship encounters with a number of defections from last year’s panel due to a multiplicity of reasons. Most notably retirements, injury, emigration and general unavailability. League results haven’t been inspiring. But hopefully under the managership of Ger Fitzgerald they can rise to the occasion and hopefully pull off a win which would provide a great boost to the club. Caherlag is the venue with a 7:00 pm throw in. St. Catherine’s lost out 4-05 to 0-07 to Youghal in their third match in the second division of the Junior Hurling league.
Meanwhile at underage level a commendable run in the Feile eventually came to a halt. Going down to a heavy defeat to Sliabh Rua when the county quarter final was played in Ballynoe on Sunday evening last. Back to back defeats for the U12 footballers, losing in the league to both Castlelyons and Bride Rovers. While the U16 hurlers lost away to Erin’s Own, they got back to winning ways when overcoming Watergrasshill in their latest league encounter in Ballynoe on Monday night last. Final score 3-11 to 4-05.
We’re heading into one of the busiest weekends of the year thus far with that attractive double header coming up at Ballynoe on Sunday afternoon next. First there is the meeting of Mallow and Youghal in the first round of the Premier Intermediate Hurling championship, throw in at 2:30pm. Followed at 4:00pm by the pairing of Killeagh and last year’s defeated finalists Bride Rovers in the first round of the Senior. There is also a minor premier 2 hurling league game against Shandrum in the pitch at 11:00am, while on Monday evening St. Catherine’s are away to Kiltha Og in the next round of the U16 “B” hurling league. A reminder once again that Sunday May 10th has been designated as Lá na gClub and must be free of all outside playing activity.
Congratulations to Maria Lane, Monagown who won €250 as part of the confined divisional draw for Imokilly when the most recent Cork GAA Clubs’ Draw was held on Friday night last.
Heading into another Bank Holiday so next week’s club lotto draw now with a jackpot of €5,800 will be held over until Tuesday night, May 5th at the Winners Enclosure bar, Conna.
