Lisgoold GAA Club News

08 October, 2012

Our congratulations must go to the Cork women footballers on defeating Kerry in the all-Ireland final last Sunday. Great to see a cork team beating Kerry in Croke Park. Also our congratulations go to to Sarsfields and Dungounrey on winning the Senior Hurling and U21 B hurling titles respectively, bringing more glory back to Imokilly and continuting the theme that the Under 21 B Hurling as yet to be won outside of east cork. Lisgoold have a final of their own as they will play the Division 2 Hurling League final this Wednesday night in Ballynoe at 7pm. We wish them the very best in this fixture.

At Shanagarry
7th October 2012
Last Sunday morning - It was back to the drawing board after this heavy defeat to the men from Shanagarry (which was their first team). They dominated from start to finish on a very heavy pitch. Lisgoold had started brightly as Kieran Barry, Noel O’Riordan, Bill Whelan got going from the first whistle but to be honest the Russell Rovers boys took over, and piled up the scores Patrick Connery, Donal O’Leary and Kieran Barry, did their upmost to hold out the attacks that were coming through.  It was a formality in the second half as the game peeped out; both sides emptied the bench, as ‘the Rovers’ strength in depth showed they held out comfortably and managed to raise 3 green flags to put a bit of gloss on the score-line. It was a mis-match, but our players were defiant to the end. All they have left is now championship vs Glenville. This will be played shortly in the coming weeks.
