Co Div 2 Football League
Na Piarsaigh and Glenville shared the points in the latest round in the County Div 2 football league which was held in Piarsaigh grounds on Thursday night last. Glenville were missing a lot of players for this game but still put in a solid effort. Piarsaigh on the other hand were at full tilt as they prepare for their Senior relegation playoff with neighbours St Nicks. With Paudie Cahill, Brendan Maloney and Shane Bergin kicking early scores we settled the better. Ben Halbert midway through the first half finished off a good move with a neat finish to the corner of the net opening up a handy five point lead. Piarsaigh got through for a very soft goal moments later when a mix up in the defence let Piarsaigh in for a soft goal. Tit for tat for the rest of the half Glenville holding a slender one point lead. A similar trend to the second half with Glenville again taking control Eoin o Reilly kicking two good scores. Bergin followed up with a good effort but we could never shake off Piarsaigh and began to tire towards the latter stages of the game. Kieran Coakley kicking a great point but this was our last score as Piarsaigh rattled off three points in a row and kicked the equaliser in injury time to force parity. Final Score Glenville 1-12 Na Piarsaigh 2-9.
In what is a very busy week for some of these players we travel to Ratoath in Co Meath on Saturday for the All Ireland Intermediate sevens. In the past we have competed in the Junior sevens in St Judes being beaten in two finals in the past. Obviously this will be a tough day for the players but one that everyone is looking forward to. Best of luck to all concerned. Back to domestic action again on Tuesday night with an away and last league game against  Clyda Rovers.

Underage games
Glenville and Carrigaline served up a trilling contest on Saturday in Carrigaline in U15. Carrig caught us napping early on and had a 4-3 to 1-1 lead inside the opening quarter. They kept the momentum up as we struggled to get the ball past halfway and playing against the strong wind didn’t help either. Carrig again pilled on the pressure and went in leading 5-8 to 2-3. Glenville were a transformed side in the second with Adam Murphy caused havoc up front. With scores going in from all angles Glenville rapidly closed the gap. The art of defending went out the window for the day but the scoring exhibition from both sides was top quality. Glenville in the end finished winning 7-11 to 6-11. Glanmire U15s play Glenville on this Friday night in Fouhy Park with a 6.15 start. The championship v Inniscarra is now fixed for October 6th. Glenville U16 Footballers were due to play Ballincollig on Monday night in the league but unfortunately our opponents were unable to field. This is the third game that we have at home and the opposition failed to show. Very unsatisfactory but it puts us in the semi final however with Fr o Neills, Ballinora, and Passage the other sides also in the semi finals.

The U12 Footballers travelled to Whitechurch for a league game against the hosts. On a bitterly cold night both sides warmed the occasion with a great committed display. Glenville held a strong 4-1 to 2-3 half time lead but Whitechurch wind assisted in the second half turned the screw and two late points gave them victory. Well done on a good display. Whitechurch 3-9 Glenville 4-5.

The U10s and U9s were very busy over the past week. On Sunday morning Fermoy hosted a well organised U10 Football blitz. Mallow, Fermoy and Mungret were the other teams. Each team had two 12 a side teams. Eventhough for a spell the heavens opened it didn’t damped the spirits and the skill level was of the highest standard. Both our teams performed very well . Thanks to Fermoy for the invite. On Friday we hosted Fermoy Kilworth for an U9 blitz. Clyda were ment to play but due to a clash with their Intermediate Football championship were understandably unable to show so we had two teams ourselves. Well done to everyone for helping out and the new reiteoirs Josh and Kyle who did fine jobs on their debut with the whistle..!! This Friday we head to Fermoy again with the U9s for a blitz, everyone to be there at 6.15pm. The parish leagues continue on Wednesday night in Fouhy Park. Everyone to be ready to go at 6.45pm.Also next Friday night the U8/7s play Bride Rovers in Rathcormac.
