JHL Division 3
Lisgoold 0-10 (10)
Aghada 2-11 (17)
At Rostellan
3rd September 2012

Lisgoold  second string lost out on another 2 points in the Division 3 league. To be fair our lads tried their upmost, but Aghada proved much too strong over the hour. Manager Barry Ahern with a limited but experienced squad tried to experiment with a few positions which were working well for a while. Lisgoold Opened brightly with a few points from Moss Mulcahy, then quickly by Dave O’Sullivan... But Aghada got in their stride and hit 1-4 without reply. Our midfield paring of Cathal Cashman and Dave Barry were holding out and managed to set-up two more Scores for Moss and Denis O’Brien which close the gap to a solitary score. However, Aghada kicked on and took over for the reminder of the half and went in at the short whistle 7 points ahead. In the second half Lisgoold got back into it but Aghada kept them at bay as both sides made use of their squads, Aghada only managed to raise a green flag during the entire second half, but kept our lads at a distance, to be fair Lisgoold battled to end a had a late scoring spree with Dave Barry and Noel O’Riordan leading the way. Dave Barry also spurned the chance of a green flag right at the start of the second half with a penalty which hit the bar, which would have put a bit of pressure on Aghada but it  didn’t come. So Lisgoold have lost this one, and our promotion ambitions our hanging by a thread. We would have played Glenville in another game, by time of print, but we could be finished by then. Not a bad performance, but the result could and possibly should have been better.

All Ireland Sevens

Our Juniors did the parish proud as they contested in the Kilmacud All-Irleand Sevens. The long journey from Lisgoold was worthwhile as they clashed with fellow hurlers from around the country over the All Ireland weekend in Dublin . The long journey from East Cork to Dublin is , of course , shortened by the terrific road improvements over the past few years , but the journey home must have been readily enjoyed as the warmth of relative success still a memory .
Our preparation for the St Jude's All Ireland Junior Hurling 7's had gone well , and sharp swift stick work , allied to a pace and youth that might , just might , provide an opportunity to showcase our Club on the national stage . The trip up on Friday was uneventful (apparently), and an early night on Friday pointed to a solid attitude for the day to follow . Our lads played well, but after losing the first game were under pressure to get through.. However they did that coming second in their group, however there was a price to pay for coming second as they fell to Shannon rovers in the Quarter-Final, who lost out in the final by three points. So our Congratulations  go to all involved . The panel was ... Ciaran Cronin , Andrew O’Donovan , Maurice O'Connell , Jer O'Connell , Noel Connery , Cathal Cashman , Conor Walsh , Barry Ahern , Brendan Flynn & Patrick O'Mahony.

10th  September 2012
A tough encounter last Monday week saw our second string succumb to a four point defeat.. It was nip and tuck for most of the first with the key moment came coming in the 18th minute where Glenville raised a green flag. Highlights of the first for the blues was some lovely passing play by Dave Barry, Bill Whelan, Brendan Flynn and Kieran Barry which was breaking down the Glenville attack constantly. Incidentally the quartet were involved in arguably the score as Moss Mulcahy started a darting run from corner back position up to the 45’ to slot a point over at 1-3 to 0-3 we had a fighting chance. However even though some inspirational shooting by Emmet Cussen (who scored a great point), bad decisions, poor passing & shooting and bad luck in the second half ensured the two league points on offer would go to our near neighbours. It wasn’t a great performance but plenty to work on. The lads have now only one league game left vs Russell Rovers.
Junior Hurling League Division 3
Lisgoold 1-8 (11)
Russell Rovers 0-16 (16)
At Shanagarry
15th September 2012
In a basement battle, the young men from shanagarry emerged victorious by a five point margin. It was a lovely evening in where some good hurling was played. Peter Leahy, Brendan Flynn, Emmet Cussen and Bill Whelan were best for our lads. As we tried to keep up with the power play of the Russell Rovers’ forwards but ultimately failed. It was hard defeat to take for our boys who did put in a fairly good performance for the hour in sun-drenched conditions, who now have one league game left vs Midleton, which will more than likely double up as a Championship game as we are playing them in two weeks. We wish them the very best.
