Junior B Hurling Championship
Midleton 2-19 Killeagh 2-12
On Friday evening last in Castlemartyr our Junior B hurlers got their 2012 campaign underway. After all the recent rain the game, despite being played in ideal weather conditions, was played on a heavy sod.
Two evenly matched teams traded scores early on. An early Midleton goal was cancelled out by one at the other end for Killeagh. Midleton scored some nice points from the stick of Jerome Curtin, Niall Madden and Brian O’Sullivan in the lead up to half time. Darren Quirke was very steady on the frees. Another Killeagh goal kept them very much in a game in which the quality of point taking was very high on both sides. At half time Midleton led by 1-10 to 2-04.
In the second half Midleton exerted further pressure as the added a further goal and nine points to their total. The second goal came from Brian O’Sullivan who finished with 1-04 from play. Killeagh fought to the end and contributed handsomely to a good spectacle. In the end Midleton had seven points to spare 2-19 to 2-12. Midleton progress to the third round while Killeagh have another chance through the back door.
Team: Christy Dunlea, Billy O’Shea, Pat Fox, Alwyn Kearney, Neil O’’Regan, Podge Dunlea, Jerome Curtin, Eoin Ferriter, Darren Quirke, Gavin Dunlkea, Sean Corcoran, Sean O’Farrell, Ian Fitzpatrick, Niall Madden and Brian O’Sullivan.

Senior Hurling Championship
This coming Saturday Midleton face Bishopstown in the quarter final of the championship. These two teams met in the opening round when Midleton came through by a small margin in a game that was in the melting pot until the last couple of minutes. Since them Midleton overcame Avondhu when a late Luke O’Farrel goal was the difference between the teams. Bishopstown overcame Douglas at the weekend and will fancy their chances to reverse their first round defeat.
Peter Smith and his selectors have left no stone unturned in their preparation. Finnbarr O’Mahony misses the game with a broken thumb and finger and a couple of more players are carrying injuries but hopefully they will be ready to start on Saturday. Throw in in Pairc Ui Chaoimh is 3.45. Your support would be most welcome.

Patrick Crotty

Juvenile Notes

Fe 11
Midleton Fe 11 hurlers welcomed Carrigaline to the CBS pitch on Saturday 1st for a challenge match.
The day was fine and Carrigaline arrived with enough players for two teams of 11 aside.
Both clubs split into even teams and played 40 minutes of hurling with one win and one loss for each club.
The hurling itself was of a good level and both teams put in great effort. Our thanks go to Carrigaline for making the trip and for giving our lads a good test.
We will train again on Thursday evening with two more matches next Saturday. One blitz in Rathcormac and a home game against Erins Own in Midleton.

Fe 10
On Thursday the 30th our FE10 footballers welcomed Aghada to Midleton CBS for a challenge game. On a beautiful evening for football both teams displayed some great skills of the game, with no blanket defences from either side it a just pure football played with skill and determination. We played two 11aside games with 15mins each half then we changed sides and played another two 15mins aside, By the end of both games both teams had played an hours football. Both teams had purple patches in the games with some of our lads rotated on and off but this did not take from the quality of both games. Thanks to Aghada for a great evenings football and all parents at the game for the support.FE10 training 6 to 7 every THURSDAY Midleton CBS, and 11 to 12.15 every SATURDAY at the main pitch.

Fe-14
While it has been quiet on the club front over the past few weeks with little game action the boys have kept busy with training session's. We have one hurling league game left to play v Blackrock and the date for this is as of yet unknown while our football league program is also complete.
We have had 5 boys involved with the Cork U-14 Hurling Development squad over the past number of months and last weekend they took part in the Annual Tony Forristal and Sonny Walsh competitions in Waterford. Garan Manley was on the Tony Forristal Squad which unfortunately lost out to Waterford in the group stages in the Mount Sion Grounds on Saturday after defeating Laois earlier in the Day. Kevin Mulcahy captained the Sonny Walsh squad which also included David Mulcahy, Padraig O'Brien and Ryan McConville this group beat Dublin and Tipperary in the group stages on Saturday before beating Kilkenny in the semi-final on Saturday in De la Salle grounds. The group then returned to Walsh Park on Sunday morning where they defeated Wexford to win the Sonny Walsh cup. Well done to all 5 boys and hopefully they along with many others will continue to represent the club at county level over the coming years. In addition to the success of the boys, John Mulcahy (Midleton Fe 14 manager) was a selector on the weekend.

Training
Training continues during the summer for all juvenile groups. Check the club website www.midletongaa.com on the juvenile team page for your child’s team training times. Team managers will update teams by text if there are changes. We would ask parents to encourage their children to practice during the week even if the weather is bad, parents can practice catching the ball indoors. Please remember to bring your €2 to training sessions. This money is vital to keep the juvenile section of the club funded.
We have re commenced the coffee morning on Saturdays. Parents with children practicing can get a free cup of coffee and admire their kids in action. Many thanks to those parents who are helping with the teas and coffees.

Club Gear
Midleton GAA juvenile club will have a shop with club playing and leisure wear open each Saturday morning in the clubhouse.
