Minors Exit Championship
Premier 2 Minor Hurling Championship
Castlelyons 0-9 V Ballincollig  2-9
The minors played Ballincollig in the Premier 2 Hurling Championship at CIT Grounds on Thursday 16th August and lost by two goals.
The weather conditions for the game were very bad, with wind and rain.  Ronan Bransfield opened the scoring with a point from play and Anthony Spillane followed with one from a free during the first two minutes.
The next score came in the tenth minute and it was a goal to Ballincollig.  In the twentieth minute Anthony Spillane pointed a free to put Castlelyons into the lead.  However Ballincollig leveled again three minutes later.  A point each during the last few minutes of the first half left the sides on equal terms at the break.
Over all there was little between the sides during the first half.   Both teams struggled bravely against the adverse conditions.  Castlelyons had five wides, three of them from frees: While Ballincollig had three, two from frees.
At the end of the tenth minute the teams were still on level terms after each scoring a point.  The next two points went to Ballincollig and they now had the lead which thy held on to for the remainder of the game.
Going into the last five minutes of play Ballincollig led by two points and the game was still there for Castlelyons.  However they failed to break down the Ballincollig defence.
A long range free to Ballincollig in the first minute of added on time gave The Ballincollig wing forward a chance and he put the ball into the top corner of the net.  the chance of a come back for Castlelyons was gone.  The final point ot=f the game gave Ballincollig a two goal lead when the final whistle went.
This was a brave and determined effort by Castlelyons minor, but on the day they were up against a stronger team who coped better with the very inclement conditions.  Well done to all the players who worked hard in the course of the year.  Well done also to the mentors, Colm Murphy, David Kenny, Brendan Hoare, Anthony O’Regan.
