BrideRovers GAA Notes.

SeniorChampionship on Saturday.

After along wait our Senior Hurlers go into Championship action on this Saturdaycoming August 18th. We face Blackrock in Round Three of the competition atPairc Ui Chaoimh. It's a vital game as the winners go forward to faceSarsfields in the next round of the Championship. The losers will be in theRelegation Final against the losers of the Cloyne/ Glen Rovers game. We haveplayed two Senior Championship games this season, losing by a point to ErinsOwn in May and going down by a margin of three points to Na Piarsaigh.Blackrock have been defeated by Ballymartle and Courcey Rovers. This is goingto be a very tough assignment as Blackrock are a renowned championship team.Their form in May and June was poor but for their two games they were missingplayers due to exams and injuries and are in a much stronger position now. Wehad three SHL  wins over Bishopstown,Midleton and Cloyne in the last five weeks but League and Championship hurlingare poles apart  as we well know. Wehave played Blackrock twice in recent years. In 2009 we won by 1 11 to 0  13 and in 2010 we were winners by 2 11 to 1  12, both were very narrow victories so thereis very little between the sides. With a few injury worries going in toSaturdays game the players are very well aware of the huge task that confrontsus. Past results count for nothing this week as it's all on the day thatmatters. We looked capable of winning our two opening Championship games butjust fell short on both occasions. We scored 19 points against Erins Own butjust 10 against Na Piarsaigh so it is obvious that we simply have to convertour possession into scores. We are under no illusion but that Saturdays game isone of the biggest challenges facing us since we came up to Senior Hurling in2003. Go for it lads, the parish is behind ye.

The game istimed for 4.39 on Saturday with the Glen Rovers/ Cloyne game at 6.30- both inPairc Ui Chaoimh.

Cork Hurlers go out.

At Croke park on Sunday last the Cork SeniorHurling team lost the All Ireland Semi Final to Galway by 22 points to 17.  While it was a disappointing result we mustacknowledge the progress Cork have made under JBM. Inter  county Hurling teams have twomain Competitions each year, the League and the Championship and if we thoughtlast January that Cork would reach a Final and a Semi Final we'd have settledfor it.  Cork are a team in transitionand they have made great progress this season. Well done to all involvedespecially Brian Murphy.
