Minor Hurling;
On Tuesday night last the 7th August an understrength minor hurling team travelled to Castlelyons for a league game.Sometimes a weakened team will raise its game and this was certainly the case in this instance against a very good Castlelyons team who are still involved in championship action.
Castlelyons were fast out of the blocks and scored a goal and a point in their first 2 attacks but credit to our lads who settled down and battled hard and were rewarded with a pointed Ciaran Mullins free followed by a goal from the same player after he dispossessed the home goalkeeper.Castlelyons response was swift with 2 points from play followed by a point from play by Cian Motherway.
The remainder of the half belonged to our opponents who registered 2.05 with  a pointed Ciaran Mullins free our only reply to leave the half time score 3.08 to 1.03.
Castlelyons were first to score in the second half with a point from play to which we responded with an Ian Cahill point following great approach work from Cian Motherway who was to have a great second half following his move to full forward.
Castlelyons went on to score 1.03 over the next 10 mins the goal just creeping over the line after a great Brian O Shea save.
An improvement in our play and with the forwards getting more ball due mainly to the work of Eoin Motherway and Conor Nelligan in defence saw us score the next 4 points,3 Ciaran frees and one from play.Castlelyons lifted the siege with 2 points but we finished the game very strongly with goals from Ciaran and Ian and the last score of the game fell to the excellent Ciaran Mullins who pointed superbly to see Castlelyons win out on a 4.14 to 3.09 scoreline.
This was an excellent team performance and all 16 players who played on the night deserve great credit special mention to Ciaran Mullins who had his best game in a Cloyne jersey since his move across parish bounds and he was ably assisted by Stevie Beausang,Eoin Motherway,Mike Donovan, Conor Nelligan and Ian Cahill.

U21 Hurling
Following our great extra time victory over neighbours Russell Rvs in round 1 we travelled to take on Watergrasshill on Saturday night last 11th August in great hope of progressing to the next round.
We got off to a very slow start conceding a goal after 40 seconds and were 1.02 to no score behind after 5 minutes. Ashley scored our first point from a free and this was quickly cancelled out by a ‘hill point from play. Gradually we began to find our feet and scored the next 3 points without reply, 2 from Ashley and a Ciaran Mullins effort from play. The ‘hills response was swift however with a point from play and a soft goal from our point of view to undo our good work.
We finished the half the stronger though outscoring our opponents  by 4 points to 1,Luke Cahill with 2 and 1 each from Ashley and Ciaran to leave us a goal behind at the interval 2.05 to 8 pts.
We started the second half in a more determined fashion and were first to score with a point from the stick of team captain Ashley who was to lead by example in the second half, he then scored the point of the game when he fielded a Cloyne puck out before dispatching the ball over the bar for an inspirational score. The next 4 points of the game were shared before a pointed Ashley free brought the scores level. The game was now up for grabs, a Watergrasshill point put them ahead once again, this was cancelled out by an Ashley point from play, the ‘hill to their credit went ahead once again with a point from play only for Ashley to level matters from a 65.
As we  entered the final stages of the game Luke put us ahead for the first time  with a point from play following a great pass from Ashley, the ‘hill equalised again but our response was excellent and a point from play from Ciaran Mullins looked to have handed us the spoils as the game entered the final few minutes.
The concession of a needless free on the sideline which was expertly converted looked to have the game heading for extra time but with the last attack of the game Watergrasshill pointed and condemned us to a cruel 1 point defeat  2.12   to 17 pts.
Credit to the team for a great effort but the concession of the 2 goals in the first half which were of the soft variety proved to be the difference in the end.

Commiserations to the Cork team in their defeat to Galway in the All Ireland semi-final. A disappointing end to the year, but the team made great strides in its efforts to get back to the top of the inter county tree.
Congratulations to Paudie who was one of Corks best performers on the day with 3 excellent points from play in the first half.

All roads lead to Pairc Ui Chaoimh for next Saturdays round 3 tie v Glen Rvs at 6.30pm.
The team have prepared very well and heres hoping we can replicate last year’s result against our illustrious opponents.
