Minor Football;
On Monday last 30th July the Minor footballers took on Bride Rovers in Rathcormac having lost the toss for home advantage. Bride Rovers opened the scoring with a point from play in their first attack of the game, but were to remain scoreless for the next twenty minutes. During this spell Cloyne monopolised possession but couldn’t turn it into scores and were guilty of some very wayward shooting indeed. Our first score was a Mathew O Neill finished goal after a shot from Chris Smith had come back off the crossbar following an excellent Eoin Motherway pass. Our next score was a converted 45 by Chris Smith which put us a goal ahead 1.01 to 1 pt.We were winning plenty of possession but were guilty of over passing the ball and with our shooting so off it was inevitable that Bride Rovers would come back into the game and that is exactly what happened with them scoring 2 pointed frees and finishing the half with a scrambled goal following a good Eoin Davis save indeed if it wasn’t for Eoin we would have found ourselves further behind as he made a number of excellent saves. Incredibly the half time score saw us behind 1.03 to 1.01 after having 80% of the possession.
The second half continued as the first with us seeing a lot of ball but unable to turn it into scores, Bride Rovers were the first to score with 3 pts 2 from frees to put them 5 ahead. A Ciaran Mullins pt from play followed by 2 Chris frees saw us mount a comeback of sorts but the final nail was a fortuitous Rovers goal scored against the run of play, which saw the final score read Bride Rovers 2.07 Cloyne 1.04.This was a very disappointing result and was definitely a game we could have won but didn’t take our chances especially in the first half.

U21 Hurling;
On Wednesday night 1st August we took on our parish neighbours Russell Rovers in the first round of the U21 hurling championship.It turned out to be one of the games of the year so far that burst into life after a quiet 45 mins or so.
The first half was even steven with every score being matched to leave matters level at 8 pts a piece heading into first half injury time but we were dealt a sucker blow with the concession of a goal following a long free into our square to leave us a goal behind 1.08 to 8pts at the break.
The feature of the first half was that all but 1 pt was scored by team captain Ashley Walsh who registered 6 frees and one from play to go with an excellent Ed Jermyn point following a good pass from Luke Cahill.
The scoring sequence in the second half continued as the first with both teams swapping scores but as the intensity of the game increased we began to give away needless frees that were punished by the Rovers freetakers to leave us 5 points behind and beginning it seemed to lose our way a little.
To the teams credit we rallied and scored the next 3 points all Ashley frees and when the Rovers replied with a like score we found ourselves a goal down heading into stoppage time.
We won a 25 metre free and with a goal needed to secure a draw up stepped a previously out of sorts Luke Cahill to drill an unstoppable shot to the net for an excellent score.
Both teams had some defending to do before referee Ger Scully from Killeagh brought proceedings to a halt and extra time was next on the menu.
The true colours of the team shone bright in the first half of extra time and despite conceding the first score we went on to register 1.04 without reply to put us 6 pts ahead at the break, the goal was scored again by Luke following excellent work from the hardworking Robbie Jermyn and Ashley began to get some help with the point scoring as sub Paul Donovan, Luke and Cairn Mullins all chipped in with scores.
Russell Rovers were again first to score in the second half but another Luke goal following an astute Ciaran Mullins pass put us into an excellent position. We conceded the next 3 scores a goal and 2 points but finished out the game strongly with 2 more Ashley frees to give us a very satisfactory win on the scoreline of 3.20 to 2.17 a result that didn’t look likely with 5 minutes to go in normal time.
Best for Cloyne on the night were team captain Ashley Walsh who scored 16 pts in total (15 frees), Eoin Motherway, Chris Smith, Declan Dinneen, Robbie Jermyn and Luke Cahill.

Senior League;
On Friday night 3rd August we made the long trip to Rathcormac for the second time in a week to play Bride Rvs in round 10 of the Red FM sponsored Senior hurling league.
The first half was a scrappy stop start affair with scores at a premium John Cotter opened our account with the first score of the game following good work from Eoin O Sullivan.Bride Rovers scored the next 2 points to move ahead but this was cancelled out again by a John Cotter point.A James Nyhan pointed 45 was scored in between 3 points from Rovers who at this stage were racking up the wides with some wayward shooting.On the stroke of half time we scored an excellent goal when Conor Cusack passed the ball beautifully into the corner of the net following great Paul O Sullivan work,the response from Bride Rvs was swift with a point from the puck out to leave us behind at the break by the minimum 7pts to 1.03.
Bride Rovers scored the first 2points of the second half, and after Conor Cusack registered a score from a short James Nyhan free Bride Rvs took over and scored 1.05 without reply before a pointed Luke Cahill free stopped the bleeding.
Another James Nyhan free followed by a Domhnall O Sullivan goal finished our scoring for the night but 2 more Rovers frees saw them run out 1.16 to 2.07 victors.
