Castlelyons 0-10v Bandon 1-8


                                    Theintermediate team went to Caherlag on Saturday 28th July to playBandon in the fourth round of the Championship and lost by the narrowest ofmargins.


            AidanO’Sullivan opened the scoring with a point from a sideline cut from forty fivemetres out in the first minute.  Threeminutes later Bandon scored  from a freeand Anthony Spillane put over Castlelyons second point from a free a minutelater.   Castlelyons’s third point was alsofrom a free from seventy fiove metrew out and was put over by Anthony Spillane.


            Inthe thirteenth minute Bandon went on the attack and clean ground stroke fromthirteen metres out gave them the only goal of the game.  Castlelyons first score from play came froman eighty metre strike by Aidan O’Sullivan which straight over the bar in thefifteenth minute.


            Goinginto the second quarter Bandon were leading by a point.  In the twenty first minute Aidan O’Sullivantaking a sideline found Barry Fitzgerald and he put it ove r the bar to levelthe sides.  Another free in the twenty fifthminute put Bandon a point ahead and this left the score 0-5 to 1-3 in favour ofBandon at half time.


            Bandonstared the second half the stronger of the two teams and had increased theirlead to three points by the seventh minute. Two frees allowed Castlelyons to reduce the margin to a singlepoint.  However Bandon responded with twopoints from play.


            Goinginto the last five minutes of the game only two points separated thesides.   The game was still there forCastlelyons, but three wides led to disappointment.  The last score of the game was a point from afree put over by Robert Feeney.


            Aftera disappointing performance from Castlelyons they exit the championship.  Only two points of the first half came fromplay. And all the scores of the second half were from placed balls.


            Inspite of this disappointment all the players did their best, not just in thisgame but in all of the championship games of the season.  Castlelyons are in second place in theDivision 2 league and have a good chance of making it to the final and winningpromotion to the first division.  Thishas to be a priority for the rest of the season.


            Welldone to all the players and the mentors, Kieran McGann (Manager), John Barrettand Justin McCarthy (Coach).  A lot ofhard work was done by both players and Mentors.

Junior HurlingLeague, Div 3.


Castlelyons 2-11v Watergrasshill 0-11      


            The Junior Hurling team playedWatergrasshill in Div 3 of the League on Tuesday 31st July athome.  Weather conditions were not goodand it rained for most of the game.  Theycame away with a two goal win.


            AlanO’Regan opened the scoring with a point and the team went on to score five morefrom play and one from a free in the course of the first half.  Watergrasshill scored one point from play andtwo from frees.  This gave Castlelyons afour point advantage at half time, seven points to three.


            Watergrasshillstared the second half strongly and scored the first two points to reduce thedifference to one point.  In the fourthminute Castlelyons went on the attack and a dropping ball was stopped by thegoalie, but he failed to clear and Alan O’Regan was on hand to send the ball tothe net with a clean ground shot.


            Thesecond goal for Castlelyons was also from a ground stroke by Chris Cotter.  Castlelyons were now in control of the gameand held the two goal lead to the end.


            Agood win and well done to all concerned.

            Theclub extens sympathy to the family of Tony Walsh of Hightown , Bartlemy whodied recently.  Sympathy is also extendedto Conn Higgins of Ballyarra whose mother died recently.
