Minor Hurling;
On Thursday night last 26th July we took on Bishopstown in round 2 of the Premier 2 Minor hurling championship at a cold and windy Delanys.
Playing with the aid of the strong wind it was obvious at an early stage that we were up against a physically stronger outfit as we struggled to gain possession in most areas of the field.
The first score of the game arrived on 4 minutes where despite a case of forewarned is forearmed Bishopstown goaled from a close in free having tried something similar from the same spot minutes earlier. Bishopstown scored the next 3 points 2 from placed balls and 1 from play before we were dealt another blow with the concession of a goal on 11 minutes to leave us 2.03 to no score in arrears.
Our first score of the half arrived on 21 minutes an expertly finished flicked goal by Danny Costine.Bishopstown responed with another pointed free with Dillon Cahill replying with a point from play. Showing greater ability to win 50/50 possession Bishopstown goaled again minutes later to increase their lead, we did finish the half stronger with 2 points a free from Dillon and an effort from play from team captain Conor Nelligan. The half time whistle sounded leaving us 3.04 to 1.03 behind and with a mountain to climb in the second half.
Aided by some positional switches we began the second half and were first to register a score a pointed free from Dillon, this was however cancelled out by a similar Bishopstown score. Conor Nelligan scored another great score from play but again this was quickly cancelled out with another ‘Town point. At this stage we were playing our best hurling with Chris Smith and Stevie Beausang in particular supplying great ball to the forwards who unfortunately were unable to make any headway against a physically stronger defense.
The next score effectively killed off our challenge when following a goalmouth scramble a mishit Bishopstown effort found the top corner. The next 2 scores were a pointed frees each with Bishopstown finishing the scoring with a batted goal from a sideline cut to leave the final score 5.08 to 1.06, a scoreline that was slightly harsh on the lads efforts but a more physical Bishopstown outfit definitely deserved their victory. Best for Cloyne on the night were goalie Brian O Shea, Chris Smith, Stevie Beausang and team captain Conor Nelligan.

Senior Hurling;
Our proposed senior league game v Douglas was cancelled so we were fortunate to be able to rearrange a fixture at short notice but in doing so forfeited home advantage against Na Piarsaigh.
The first half was a very drab affair from our point of view the highlight a goal finished by Conor Cusack following good interplay from Luke Cahill and Colm O Sullivan.This goal left us 4 points behind at the break 1.08 to 1.04.
The second half saw a marked improvement in our play but things didn’t improve greatly on the scoreboard with scores very hard to come by,positively a few goal scoring chances were created but went abegging the final score read Cloyne 1.08 Na Piarsaigh 1.15.
