East Cork Oil Junior A hurling championship

On a sundrenched Sunday evening we headed the bus for Castlelyons where we took on Lisgoold in the quarter final of the junior A hurling championship. This was a potential banana skin as even though Lisgoold are a good side people were writing them off and thats always dangerous and a real boost for Lisgoold.

As it turned out we were two points behind after three minutes and it was nine minutes before we had our first score a Shane Casey pointed free, back came Lisgoold with two more points but we replied through a Martin Wall point and another Casey free- it was nip and tuck and in the close confines of the Catlelyons pitch we were struggling to translate our possession into scores.Lisgoold had another point on the board before Dungourney suffered a real blow in in the 23rd when Paul Kelleher who was playing really well suffered what looked a bad injury to his knee ,James McCarthy replaced him with Daz moving to the half back line and Mac taking up a position in the forward line.

Between this and half time however Dungourney took over in the scoring department, two more points from Shane Casey and a good point from James Mac  with only  point in reply from Lisgoold left the scoreboard looking more healthy however Maurice O Connell will rue some bad misses which on another day he would have put over in his sleep, half time score Dungourney 0.06 Lisgoold 0.05.

As people pondered the first half it was great to see so many children pucking around on the pitch at half time maybe we saw a potential Cork star of the future happily striking the ball around to his friends on the immaculate Castlelyons pitch.

The second half started much like the first with Lisgoold getting the first two points but that man Casey keeping us in it with placed balls and a point from play,a pointed free in reply from our adversiaries, amazingly Lisgoold would only score once more a point in the 19th minute where as our lads went for the jugular.Three goals ,one from Kevin Kelleher and two from "Hago "set us on our way and points from Kenneth ,Niall,James Mc and Shane Hegarty saw us pull away from Lisgoold who while playing well could not make any impact on our backline who all played well.

Colm emptied the bench with John O Neill,Warren McCarthy and Stephen Hickey replacing Shane Casey,Mark Hegarty and Kevin Kelleher late on before ref Niall Barret blew the final whistle job done for the night.Final score Dungourney 3.14 Lisgoold 0.09.

So we are into another East Cork semi final Erins Own will be our opponents a tough proposition but I am sure Sean will have our lads in tip top condition when the time comes.PS Best of luck to Paul for a quick recovery.
