Minor Hurling;
The first round of this years Premier 2 hurling championship took place on Tuesday 17th July in Delaneys. V Courcey Rovers.
The team were dealt  a blow before the start when it was learnt that star forward Dillon Cahill was unable to play due to illness.
On a bad night for hurling with driving wind and rain we got proceedings under way playing with the elements in the first half.
Against a physically stronger team who coped better with the elements we found ourselves 1.02 behind in the first 10 minutes,we eventually settled and Ciaran Mullins opened our account with a free before Ian Cahill goaled following a long free expertly won by Jordan Sherlock in defence.Scores were swapped for the rest of the half with Ciaran scoring 2 frees and a great Ian point from the left wing to leave us 2 points behind at the break 1.06 to 1.04.
Courceys began the second half as they did the first when scoring a goal straight from the throw in,despite this setback Cloyne responded excellently a goal from the excellent Ian Cahill and points from a Ciaran Mullins free and one fron Cian Motherway saw us back in the game.At this stage the forwards began to get more of the ball due mainly to an improvement in our half back line with Chris Smith and Eoin Motherway thundering into the game.Unfortunately scores were hard to come by against a physically stronger Corceys rearguard,and we were dealt a hammer blow against the run of play when Courceys goaled for the 3rd time despite a great double save from Brian O Shea.Courceys added a few more points to a consolation score from Cian to leave the final score 3.12 to 2.07.
We now face Bishopstown in round 2 and with Dillon back and this game under our belts we will approach the game with improved confidence,well done to all concerned for a brave effort on the night.

Int Football;
On Wednesday night last 18th July we travelled to Castlelyons to play Kilavullen in round 3 of the football championship.Victory would ensure intermediate football for 2013 and a passage to round 4 while defeat would find us in a relegation final against Glanmire.The team took to the field in determined fashion hoping to make up for the disappointing performance in round 2 v Aghabullogue.We made a great start scoring from our first 3 attacks points from the dangerous Colm and Paudie O Sullivan and a goal from the penalty spot by Diarmuid O Sullivan following a foul on team captain Conor O Lomasney.On top all over the field we pressed home our advantage and helped by a fortuitous goal by Diarmuid we found ourselves 2.03 to no score ahead.
Kilavullen to their credit improved their performance for the remainder of the half tacking on some good scores but further points from Diarmuid,Paudie and Chris Smith saw us ahead 2.07 to 6 pts at half time.
Kilavullen started the second half with a sloppy goal from our point of view and for a few minutes our play became ragged and it needed 2 pointed frees from Chris to settle us down again.Kilavullen continued to come forward in search of scores but were repelled by our excellent backs and when Diarmuid goaled following our best move of the game we could finally relax and play out the remaining minutes,our last score another pointed free from Chris.Tempers boiled over for a time which saw Kilavullen reduced to 14 men following 2 yellow cards,the final whistle sounded soon after with us safely through to round 4 where we will face Fermoy.

Senior Hurling;
Ballymartle were the visitors on Saturday night last for round 7 of the Red FM sponsored Senior League.On a perfect night for hurling before a large crowd the first half was a very entertaining affair with points traded early on the visitors took the lead with a well taken goal that was cancelled out by an expertly finished goal from corner forward M Walsh.Defences were largely on top and all the remaining scores in the half came from frees with James Nyhan unerring in his efforts.Ballymartle did sneak in for another goal on the stroke of half time following a mix up in the Cloyne defence to leave Ballymartle ahead at the break 2.07 to 1.06.
The second half began with Cloyne showing more intensity in their game than the first half and after the teams had swapped frees we were rewarded with an expertly finished Conor O Lomasney goal following a great catch from a James Nyhan sideline.Our first point from play a great effort from Domhnall O Sullivan put us ahead for the first time in the game,Ballymartle responded well and scored the next 3 points but were rocked by a Victor Cusack goal entering the last 10 mins,another James Nyhan free proved to be our last score of the game and with the team tiring following many of them having played football on Wed night Ballymartle tacked on the last 6 points 3 frees and 3 from play to run out winners 2.17 to 3.09.

Junior Hurling;
On Sunday last we took on Midleton in the 3rd round of the East Cork Hurling championship in Ballinacurra.
On a day more akin to November we took to the field as underdogs against our illustrious opponents and one of the favourites for the title.
Showing scant regard for those thoughts we tore into the game from the start and were full value for our 2 point half time lead  1.04 to 5 points, the goal a great effort from full forward Luke Cahill who showed great strength working in along the end line before finishing expertly to the net.The best score of the half was from excellent half back Vincent Cusack who slotted over from 70 yards out having won a great ball,the remainder of the scores came from placed balls scored by David Ring.
The second half saw us turning around to play against the elements and it took along time for the expected Midleton fight back to materialize due mainly to the excellent Cloyne defence in particular the full back line trio of James Cotter,Ian McCarthy and Brian Ring.Midleton eventually began to wear us down and picked off some nice scores to draw level midway through the half.Tempers blew over temporarily which saw the Midleton corner forward dismissed for 2 yellow card offences.With numerical advantage we began to see more of the ball but against a tough Midleton rearguard all we could manage was 2 Dave Ring placed balls in the half.Numbers were evened up when we lost Rob Jermyn to 2 yellow cards and try as we might we couldn’t close the gap and Midleton ran out 2 point winners 11pts to 1.06.This was a fantastic effort by all the players and management and considering that we have used 23 players at Senior level it makes it a more worthy effort.
