Castlemartyr GAA Notes 23rd July 2012
Junior A Hurling Championship
Castlemartyr 1-08 Dungourney0-13
This was a gripping encounter all through which ended in heartbreak for Castlemartyr as Dungourney progressed into the quarter finals of the East Cork. The game was played in poor conditions which meant scoring was never going to be high. Castlemartyr found themselves a point ahead entering the last five minutes, but Dungourney managed to pick off three points in the final minutes to take the spoils.
Castlemartyr had the forst score on the board after Adrian Bowens pointed inside the first minute before Dungourney cancelled this out with a pointed free. Then Barry Lawton cut through the Dungourney defence before slipping a pass to Eddie Clifford who blasted the ball to the back of the net. Jamie Stack extended our lead with a great point from distance. Dungourney then had two points from play to leave us two points ahead. Evan O’Keeffe then had a great point after robbing a Dungourney player of the ball. Dungourney had a pointed free before Brian Smiddy slotted over a 65. Dungourney then had two points to level the game before the empressive Eddie Clifford pointed from play. This left the half time score at 1-5 to 0-07 in favour of Castlemartyr.
Jimmy Smiddy extended our lead after the resumption with a free. Dungourney then reduced the gap with a point from play before Eddie Clifford scored a great point from a tight angle. The Castlemartyr had a great chance of a goal after Barry Lawton played in Jamie Stack but a great save by the Dungourney goalie kept the ball out of the net. Dungourney then had two pointed frees to level the game and with 15 minutes left on the clock the game was there for the taking. Brian Lawton then went on a run and pointed for Castlemartyr to put us one ahead but unfortunately this was to prove our last score. Dungourney levelled with a point from play and after being awarded a free out by the sideline went ahead for the first time in the game. Then in injury time they got the insurance point and when Cathal McAllister blew the full time whistle it was Dungourney and Castlemartyr who had to think what might have been in a game that they played with great spirit and determination but just came up short in the end.  It was a game in which every score counted for so much and if Castlemartyr had taken a couple of goal chances that presented themselves then perhaps the result may have been different.

1st prize each month is €1,000

We would like to inform you about our annual fundraising draw for 2012 which is taking place over two months with draws to be held in July and August. The monthly subscription is €25 with substantial cash prizes to be won each month.
As you can appreciate, the provision and maintenance of our facilities, along with the running costs associated with all our teams, place a substantial financial burden on our club. This year we have the added cost of our new ball alley which is a fabulous new facility for our members. Our main source of income in meeting these costs is our Annual Club Draw. In the past all our members and supporters have been very supportive of this draw and we would be very grateful of your continued support.
Ticket sellers will be calling to your homes in the coming days and can also be purchased by contacting
