Cavanaghs of Fermoy East Cork/Avondhu hurling league semi final,Dungourney vs Sarsfields.

Last Monday night July 16th took us to Ballyhooley for the hurling laegue semi final where we took on a good Sars side.Sars started like a whirlwind

and had six points on the board before Dungourney had their first score a pointed free from Shane Casey.Dungourney battled well up to half time with four more Casey pointed frees and one from Shane Hegarty but Sars had five more points of their own to leave the half time score looking a bit lopsided Sarsfields 0.11 Dungourney0.06.

Dungourney looked a bit sluggish and maybe the upcoming championship match vs Castlemartyr was on players minds nevertheless we expected Dungourney to improve in the second half with the aid of the breeze all was not yet lost.

The sides resumed the second half with Dungourney getting the first score through Shane Casey but Sars quickly replied with two points of their own

,Dungourney responded with points from Hago and Daz Ahern but again Sars came back keeping six points between the teams more or less throughout. Dungourney were dealt a further blow when Paul Kelleher was dismissed for a second yellow and though the two Shanes added five more points Sars were able to keep the gap at six points and closed out the game to win on a scoreline of Sarsfields0.20 Dungourney 0.14.

EAST CORK OIL East cork junior hurling cship third round Dungourney vs Castlemartyr .

A wet misty evening greeted us at Youghals top of the hill pitch as we arrived to see the eagerly awaited duel between ourselves and near neighbours and fierce rivals Castlemartyr.Though we are joined at underage level (and it was fantastic to see so many players who came through Kiltha Og from both sides)it is still the fixture we both hate to lose and what a cracker it turned out to be.

Castlemartyr started well and though we had the first points from Martin Wall and again from a Shane Casey free they looked dangerous and so it transpired when they had a goal and two points on the board after nine minutes.Kevin Kelleher ,Casey and Eoghan Ahern added on points for us but Caslemartyr too were tacking on the points and we just could not draw ahead.Another pointed free from Shane and one from Waller left us one behind at the short whistle Dungourney 0.07 Castlemartyr 1.05.

The early part of the second half was more perspiration the inspiration as up to the twentieth minute only four points had been scored two for each team(Martin Wall and Shane Casey for us)but as that only told some of the story Martin Hennessy was growing into his new goalkeeping position saving superbly one on one with Jamie Stack and also making one great clearance under pressure,Kenneth Kelleher also replaced Stephen Hickey at abuot the 12th minute and his fresh legs contributed to a turnaround in our fortunes. The last twelve or thirteen minutes of the match provided some nailbiting moments as try as we might scores were slow to come but two points from Casey and one from Martin Wall finally put us one ahead before Paul Kelleher scored a fine point in injury time leaving Castlemartyr needing a goal.Castlemartyr did have one late chance but a close in free from Evan O Keeffe was cleared  by our backs before Cathal McAllister blew the final whistle, final score Dungourney 0.13 Castlemartyr 1.08.
