East Cork Under 21 B Hurling First Round

Lisgoold 3-9 (18)
Carrigtwohill 1-17 (20)
At Lisgoold
12th July 2012

Lisgoold bowed out of the Under-21 B Hurling championship in an extremely tough encounter against our near neighbours. It what was an excellent battle from start to finish our young blues, unfortunately came up short. With John Cronin, Alan Conroy & Conor Walsh, stepping up to the plate it looked like a shock was in the cards as they put it up to the Carrig boys. However with the Hogan brothers (Thomas & Padraig), Colm O Donovan & William McCarthy flourishing, Carrig were more than capable of stopping the Lisgoold challenge. An electric start saw John Cashman raise a few white flags and the industrious Jamie Woods and Andrew O’Donovan mixing it in it looked good, and with a few physical battles developing (and Lisgoold were winning a few) we trooped in at half time 1-4 to 0-6 ahead with things going well for us. Two goals from either team opened up the contest, and from then on it was a shoot-out. Rob Smart was throwing his weight around as well as John McCarthy and coming to the last quarter we were a point ahead. Carrigtwohill though, with all their experience and guile rose to the occasion and pointed their way to victory and were through to the quarter-final by a two point margin. It was very close, and to be honest frustrating as frees missed in the first half and frees conceded (by usually a sound defence) were the turning points in a game played in very difficult conditions. It’s the end of the road for another year for the Under21’s as hopefully they can re-group with the juniors and get ready for a JAHC Quarter-final with either Dungourney or Castlemartyr. So Carrig are through, a bit fortunate but through and they have a date with either Carrignavar or Killeagh in the quarter-final, Lisgoold are just left to ponder what might have been.

Junior Hurling League Division 2

Lisgoold 0-16 (16)
Killeagh (1) 1-9 (12)
At Lisgoold
15th July 2012

A crucial victory for Lisgoold vs. Killeagh in Páirc Liosgcúl saw the home side up their position to third of the second division of the Hurling League. Conor Walsh, dominant and powerful in his full back berth , led by example , and was well supported by the tireless and ebullient Barry Ahern who lorded in his "lar na pairce" role. John Cashman , as usual , was accurate throughout and punished our visitors repeatedly from deal ball situations, whilst the youthful trio of Bryan O’Sullivan , Andrew O’Donovan and Cathal Cashman kept the men in green at bay while our forwards kept the white flag raised in our favour, especially during an impressive second half that saw us run out victors by a deserved four point margin.
