Junior A Hurling Championship
Castlemartyr 2-17 Bride Rovers 0-10
Castlemartyr played Bride Rovers in round 2 of the East Cork Junior A hurling championship in Ballynoe on Sunday night and ran out easy winners in the end. The score line flattered us by full time with the game still in the melting pot with 20 minutes to go. Bride Rovers started better had the first score of the night from a free. After 8 minutes Chris Moran opened Castlemartyr’s account with a point after being set up by Barry Lawton.  Then Barry got on the score sheet himself after he gathered a sideline cut, rounded his man and finished superbly to the net. Eddie Clifford then pointed to put Castlemartyr four ahead before a Bride Rovers free cut the gap back to three points. Brian Smiddy then sent over a 65 before the teams swapped a couple of pointed frees. Then a long ball into the Bride Rovers goal area was not dealt with by the goalkeeper and Barry Lawton was there to pick up the ball and finish to an empty net. Bride Rovers had another pointed free before the half time whistle with the score 2-5 to 0-05 in favor of Castlemartyr.
The first 10 minutes of the second half was even as both teams exchanged points. Barry Lawton kept us his form from the first half with 2 points from play and Jimmy Smiddy pointed another free. In the final 20 minutes however, Castlemartyr took over and scored 9 unanswered points to end the match as a contest. Seanie Hennessy came storming into the game with 3 points from play, Brian Smiddy scored a long range free, Barry Lawton brought his personal tally to 2-3, Brian O’Tuama also got on the score sheet as did substitutes Mark Bowens and Jamie Stack.  On the night, the back played excellent restricting Bride Rovers to just 3 points from play with Barry Lawton a constant danger up front.
Castlemartyr now meet local rivals Dungourney in round 3 with both teams well used to each other and meeting a number of times in recent years. This is going to be a huge challenge facing the reigning East Cork champions, but one with the team and management are looking forward to.

1st Draw End July, 2nd End August
1st prize each month is €1,000

We would like to inform you about our annual fundraising draw for 2012 which is taking place over two months with draws to be held in July and August. The monthly subscription is €25 with substantial cash prizes to be won each month.

As you can appreciate, the provision and maintenance of our facilities, along with the running costs associated with all our teams, place a substantial financial burden on our club. This year we have the added cost of our new ball alley which is a fabulous new facility for our members.  Our main source of income in meeting these costs is our Annual Club Draw. In the past all our members and supporters have been very supportive of this draw and we would be very grateful of your continued support.
Ticket sellers will be calling to your homes in the coming days and can also be purchased by contacting Carey Joyce on 0863681382, Christy O’Sullivan on 0868040183 or Dave Fleming on 0872265560.
