Thur 5th July M H C Aghada 0-15 Ballinora1-11

The minors secured a place in their secondfinal this year with an heroic performance in Ballyanley on Thursday evening. It was a showing full of character that we just shaded in the end against avery tough Ballinora outfit. Kane Looney, as captain, led by example from thestart

After a slow start, with both sidessettling in, Ballinora went two points up. This shook our players into actionand they gradually clawed their way back to lead 0-9 to 0-5 at the break. AaronStafford, Jake O Donoghue as well as Stephen and Andrew Murphy led the way butplayers like Jack Hayes and Scott Coyle Garde and Robbie Steele were alsomaking serious contributions. Stephen Murphy had also pointed in the first halfwhile James O’Leary was immense between the sticks as usual.

After the break, Ballinora came at us verystrongly and clawed back a few good scores. Ten minutes in, Shane Dorney wasvery unlucky to be given the line for a second bookable offence and we weredown to fourteen men with twenty minutes still left to play. Instead offolding, the team, with Daniel Creedon now on, dug deep and held their nervewhen Ballinora drew level. Ryan O Keeffe was leading from the forty while MichaelGilroy and Shane Crowley were on top at corner back. Conor O Driscoll wasanother who was putting in a superb display up front, when the pressure was on.Cian Savage also stepped up his performance in the second half. Aaron was stillkeeping us in touch but two beautifully worked scores from Daniel plus a finalminute free from Aaron had us up a point to the good when the final whistleblew. Team

Sat 7th July U10 Aghada v Brian Dillon’s

Aghada took to the roads to the City, thisSaturday with Brian Dillon’s the opponents at the Tank Field, Mayfield. Aglorious morning, weather wise, we were up against a strong and tall Brian Dillon’steam and at half time we were a point down after a level enough first half.Danny McCarthy and Michael Joseph Stafford were in good scoring form, and RonanConnelly was up and down the pitch throughout the first half, covering lots ofground. In the second half

Fintan Cody took up the position of CornerForward and was a revelation sticking over a number of excellent points and acouple of goals. Neil Cunningham excelled too scoring some great goals on thebreak. Seamus Moloney was pulling the strings in midfield with some veryintelligent and creative passing. James Linehan got on the ball a number oftimes, breaking up the play, turning over ball and won us a couple of frees inthe process. Man of the Match was Aidan Slye who was a tower of strength atfull back, turning over a huge amount of ball, coming out of defence andpicking out his passes with aplomb. Liam Curley and Kalem Keane were verystrong defensively also, with Kalem, at one point, bravely catching a high balland hanging onto it even though it smacked him right on the face! Sean Óg was handpassing well, moving the ball on quickly and Donagh Collins was assured in hisplay. Aghada ran out winners in the end. Thanks to Brian Dillon’s who put on alovely spread afterwards. We do hope they have the best of luck hanging on totheir Tank Field!
