JAHC 1st Round
Lisgoold 1-13 (16)
St.Itas 2-7 (13)
At Dungourney
30th June 2012

Our junior hurlers managed to dispose St.Itas to advance into the hat for the third round draw. After a tough hard encounter we emerged victorious by a three point margin. We had a whirlwind start as Jamie woods and Maurice O'Connell banged over the first few scores. Itas Full forward was their sole reply with a few points. As a battle quickly developed, Lisgoold seem to have built up a head of steam, some great score by Alan Conroy, Bryan O'Sullivan, Mossy and Jamie ensured we had a 0-6 to 0-2 lead after 13 minutes. A few minutes later the breakthrough came, some excellent fielding by John Cashman after a long delivery by Eoin O'Sullivan slipped Jamie Woods in for a green flag. Our defence could be accused for a lack of concentration as an instant reply came from Itas as Seamus Harendy scored a goal, frustratingly it still left us 1-7 to 1-3 ahead. However further points from John Cashman and Mossy ensured we went in for the half-time jaffa 1-10 to 1-4 ahead.

Concentration was again lacking as Itas Banged in 1-2 to a solitary free from Mossy to leave two points between them it seemed we were in for a cracker for the last 24 minutes but incredibly only three points were scored for the reminder of the game as both defences go on top. Conor Walsh, Barry Ahern, Dave Barry (who was exceptional) & Man of the match Noel Connery were holding our defence intact as Itas were repelled time and time again. Frustratingly our forwards couldn't improve the gap between us as several chances were created and not taken and it took the introduction of Robert Smart to develop some daylight between the teams. Our stand-in keeper Peter Leahy had the defence well marshaled as we rode the game out. Itas had a last minute free to get an equalizing goal but missed their opportunity and we were through. It was a nervy second half disappointing performance wise, but we were through.

Manager Mike Woods had this to say "I'm Happy. We are through and that's what matters, it was a bit nervy there for a while but we held out. It would have been nice if the forwards managed to increase the gap a small bit to make life that bit easier but however I've full confidence in our defence who played exceptionally well over the hour. We just have to wait and look forward to the draw on Wednesday night" So, Lisgoold will be waiting in hat for the draw on Wednesday night - while Itas will face tough examination with Cloyne if they are to make any further advancement.
