to me, info

It’s down to the wire in the seniorfootball championship as we play St Nicks in the last chance saloon and thestakes could not be higher, the winner back into the championship, while theloser goes into the trap door final. That game is fixed Sat 14th Julyat Cobh 7-30 but depending on Cork it could move to the following Wed 18th July

Injury and Holidays cost us dearly missing sixfrom the Castlehaven game proved too big a hill for us to climb. St Nicks won’tbe easy as they should have beaten Clonakilty last time out

Sat 23rd June S F C Aghada 0-8 Newmarket 0-10

Short five from the Castlehaven game Aghadahad it all to do against last years P I F Champions Newmarket on a prefectKillavullen sod in this second round game.

We  started well as Michael Russell answered anearly free from ace marksman T. J. Bodie. Both sides found the scoring hardthen Ger Melvin pointed to give Aghada the lead for the first and only time onthe 9th minute. Two minutes later the Duhallow side were level from a Bodiefree as Newmarketstarted to get a grip of the game

As we left the first quarter Aghada after agreat move had a chance of a goal but Jose O’Shea flashed it across the sticks, from then till the short whistle Newmarketcontrolled the game scoring three great points on the trot from play by theboots of David O’Flynn, Nicky Flanagan, and the very dangerous John Lane.

Melvin and Bodie exchanged frees to leavethe half time score 6 points to 3

After half time Aghada came out with allguns blazing, from the thrown in Trigger pointed and it looked like Aghadawould make a game of it. But every time Aghada went forward it was a wide or welost the ball and the Duhallow men were very dangerous on the brake away.

It would be twenty minutes before Aghadawould score again and that was from a placed ball by sub Jer Hurley, while Newmarket had three fromFlanagan, Kevin O’Sullivan, and O’Flynn. With seven minutes on the clockNewmarket made it double scores 10 points to 5 and it looked like Aghada neededa goal which never looked like coming but then it was all Aghada as theyattacked in waves scoring three points in as many minutes and Aghada were incomplete control but it was too late to change the course of the game.

Newmarket defended in droves and countered attacked isolating Aghada’s cornerbacks indeed they were unlucky not to get goals.
