BrideRovers GAA NOTES

JuniorChampionship on Saturday night.

We playCarrignavar in the first round of the East Cork Oil Junior A grade HurlingChampionship on Saturday night. Having being heavily defeated by Dungourney inour last Imokilly/Avondhu JHL game last week we will find it hard to pick upthe pieces for this game. Carrignavar defeated us in the 2008 championship ontheir way to winning their first ever East Cork Title. In the Senior HurlingChampionship to date we have used a total of nineteen players in the games vErins Own and Na Piarsaigh. Carrig  areagain one of the favourites to win the Jamesy Kelleher Cup outright. They will provide very tough opposition for us.We started the Inter Divisional League in great fashion and our displays vBallyhooley, Shanballymore, Cobh, Russell Rovers and Castlemartyr were all topclass despite the fact we were very short of player numbers. The game is timedfor 7.30pm in Felix Sarsfield Memorial Park Watergrasshill. Go for it lads andhurl to the very best of yere ability.

Senior toface Rockies.

The Drawsfor Round 3 of the 2012 Cork County Senior Hurling Championship were made atPairc Ui Chaoimh on Monday night. Cloyne, Blackrock, ourselves and the losersof the Glen Rovers/Bishopstown tie were all in the drum. We have been drawnagainst Blackrock while Cloyne will play the losing team of the All City Tie-fixed for Wed June 27th. Our game against the Rockies will be dependent on theresult of the Munster Semi Final next Sunday.

FacingBlackrock at this stage of the championship is a major undertaking. The winnerswill be back in the championship while the losers will be in the relegationfinal. Blackrock lead the Roll of Honour in Cork Senior Hurling with a massive32 County Senior Titles to their credit. They have a very proud history and will provide a stern test of any clubside in Cork. All we can do is to prepare diligently and seriously for thegame, which could well be played in the next two weeks.

The 'plum'tie in Round 3of the Premier Intermediate Championship is surely Watergrasshillv Castlelyons.

Our Minor Hurling team played two games in the County NonExam Player League last week. On Tuesday we made the 150 mile round trip toRossmore to play  the local teamKilmeen/ Kilbree. The first half was very even but with the wind in the secondhalf the home side won well by  16points to 6.

On Saturday night we hosted Buttevant in Pynes field andafter a high scoring game the visitors won by 3  15 to 1  13.

The first round of the Minor A Hurling championship will beplayed in early July so all players are asked to make a big effort over thenext few weeks.

Cork V Tipperary.

"The hay is saved and Cork is bet the thousands wildlysing…." Well one thing is certain there wont be much hay saved betweenthis and next weekend! As for the result of the game, well Cork and Tipp gamesare unique, form goes out the window when these two old rivals meet andhopefully it will be no different next Sunday . With teams like Clare andLimerick already consigned to the qualifier route getting to the Munster Finalis a more attractive option. We wish Brian Murphy and all his Cork team-matesthe very best 'on the banks of our own lovely Lee'. The Munster Council ishoping for an attendance of over 30,000 -this would be a decent crowd when wesaw just over 12,000 in Thurles for Clare and Waterford last Sunday. Fair playto Waterford hurlers, what heart and spirit they have after all the setbacks theyare in the Munster Final again. It is the first time in the history of theDecie that hey have qualified for four consecutive Munster Senior HurlingFinals. The playing resources in Waterford are limited but they keep comingforward with exciting hurlers carrying a great tradition.

Imagine if ticket prices were slashed by €10 each for lastand next Sundays games? We'd be looking at an attendance of 40,000 in 'thePark'.
