County U13 A Football Final on Sunday

The main focus of attention this weekend is the County U13 Football Final where Glenville will face Thomas Russell’s from the Kilshannig/Glantane/Dromahane region in North Cork. Glenville had a terrific win over Kilmeen last Sunday in Coachford but can expect a stern and different proposition in Thomas Russell’s who have swept all before them on route to Sundays  Final. Annihilating Kanturk in the divisional final by 9-18 to 2-2 and last Sunday they secured a County Final spot against Kilmurry with a similar facile scoreline so the task in hand will be a tough one. This Glenville team has progressed very nicely all year with a couple of initial indifferent league performances, the team gelled well for the first round of the championship when we saw off a tough Passage challenge by a five point margin. Our next round was against Castlelyons and we displayed terrific football in terrible conditions to record a 2-10 to 1-4 win. Russell Rovers were our opposition in the divisional semi final and after extra time an unlikely victory was recorded as we displayed great craft and courage to stick at it when all seemed lost. The final against Kilmurry was a game we should have won but the team had since regrouped and displayed a steely tenacity last Sunday in Coachford. Kilmeen the West Cork winners had no answer to our teamwork and desire to win. To be in a County Final is a fantastic achievement for this side and the progress made is a testament to the great work done by Manager Mike Gowen and his background team. Hopefully the team will give a good account of themselves on Sunday and win, lose or draw they have given great entertainment throughout the season so far. The game is timed for 2.45pm with Coachford the venue. Please support the lads as they deserve all the support available. A big crowd travelled to Coachford last week for the semi final and no doubt we will have huge support again for this historic occasion. Hopefully they can follow on last years all conquering County U14 Footballers and bring back the County Cup to Glenville on Sunday evening.

Other games played.

The Junior Footballers had two games over the past week against Ballincollig and Douglas. These were two well worth while and very competitive games that were played at a fast moving pace. Scores Glenville 0-9 Douglas 2-6 and Glenville 1-12 Ballincollig 3-13. We have two further games lined up over the next week or so with St Catherine’s travelling to Glenville on Thursday night for 7.30 start while we play Passage next week. Details to follow. The Intermediate Footballers next outing in the championship will probably go ahead on the weekend of June 16/17 due to Macroom's Fintan Goold, Sean Kiely and Eoin o Mahony's involvement with the Cork Senior Footballers on June 10th. Glenville have a league game away to Clyda Rovers on Friday June 8th in Mourneabbey at 7.30pm. The U10 Footballers had a game against Whites Cross and again performed to a high standard. This team under the watchful eye of Eamon Fitzgerald have a game v Fermoy on Wednesday in Glenville at 7pm. The same time Cathals U9 side play Bride Rovers in Fouhy Park at 7pm and on Thursday the U8/7 S travel to St Colmans College in Fermoy to play Fermoy in a series of mini games.
But the big one on Sunday County U13AFC Final Glenville v Thomas Russell’s in Coachford at 2.45pm. The B Final also takes place as curtain raiser to it.
